Hi, I’m Zhala Ahmadova, a sociolinguist specializing in multilingualism, pragmatics and discourse, semantics, and interaction. My research explores code-switching and language use in urban settings, and I examine digital language learning practices, including YouTube as an English-learning tool among university students in Azerbaijan. I earned an MA in Sociolinguistics and Multilingualism through a collaborative program with Vytautas Magnus University, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, and Stockholm University (2018–2020), and I hold a BA in English Teaching from Azerbaijan University of Languages (2014–2018). I use qualitative interviews, surveys, and discourse analysis to understand how people communicate across languages and cultures. I’m passionate about sharing findings with both academic and broader audiences, and I enjoy presenting at conferences and collaborating with researchers from Azerbaijan and beyond. Outside of research, I’m committed to accessible language education and to advancing cross-linguistic understanding in diverse communities.
