Children's book writing, illustration and design
These are just a small selection of children's book covers that I've written, illustrated and designed for publication. Every cover is created to capture a child's imagination while appealing to parents, teachers and booksellers, balancing creativity with strong commercial design. With over 30 years' experience working with leading children's publishers and through my own publishing company, I offer a complete picture book design service—from initial concepts and character development to illustration, typography, page design and print-ready artwork. Whether you need a single cover or an entire book brought to life, I'd love to help create something children will want to pick up and read. graphicdesigner illustrator designer branding

Toddlersaurus - Books for your little dinosaurs
The Toddlersaurus series is a collection of four engaging books introducing young children to dinosaurs through familiar everyday activities. Each title features a different dinosaur and a relatable routine—Playtime (Triceratops), Time to Eat (Stegosaurus), Bathtime (Brontosaurus) and Bedtime (T-Rex)—combining playful storytelling with colourful, child-friendly illustrations. One of the strengths of this series is its versatility. Originally created as innovative 24-page picture books featuring five large gatefold flaps, the books were later redesigned as traditional 32-page picture books and subsequently published by the Italian children's publisher La Coccinella as sturdy 10-page board books with five recessed flaps for younger readers. The project evolved even further when I completely reformatted the series for Barnes & Noble as a single hardback bind-up, combining all four stories into a 60-page edition featuring an impressive 20 large gatefold flaps. Transforming four individual books into one cohesive interactive volume was both a challenging and highly rewarding design project, requiring careful planning of page flow, typography, illustration placement and engineering to create an engaging reading experience. This series demonstrates my ability to think beyond a single book format, developing publishing concepts that can be successfully adapted for different publishers, international markets, age groups and retail opportunities while maintaining a consistent visual identity and high production standards. Rockpool Children's Books
This project showcases a selection of children's picture books created for my own publishing company, Rockpool Children's Books. Each title highlights my work as an author, illustrator, book designer and publisher, demonstrating my ability to develop original concepts from the first idea through to finished, print-ready books. The collection includes a variety of styles, characters and subjects, reflecting my experience in creating engaging, high-quality picture books for young readers. The only title not written by me is The Little Football Fan, written by Mark Williams, for which I was responsible for the illustration, book design and publication. With more than 30 years' experience creating children's books for major publishers as well as my own publishing company, I can provide illustration, design and complete book production services for authors, publishers and organisations. Character Illustration Projects
This collection showcases my illustration work for some of the world's most beloved children's characters, created for leading publishers including HarperCollins, Egmont and Hodder Children's Books. For more than 20 years I have been the author and illustrator of new stories for the Rupert Bear Annual, helping to continue the adventures of one of Britain's most enduring children's characters for new generations of readers. The portfolio also includes work featuring much-loved favourites such as Postman Pat, Winnie the Pooh and Kipper, demonstrating my ability to work faithfully with established characters while maintaining their distinctive style, personality and appeal.
    The Little Football Fan
The Little Football Fan was originally conceived and written by Mark Williams with the aim of encouraging young children to discover the joy of reading through a shared passion for football. I was responsible for illustrating, designing and publishing the book, creating an engaging visual style that would appeal to young readers and football enthusiasts alike. Since the original publication, I have continued to develop and expand the concept by creating new editorial content, introducing additional sports and producing the Colouring & Activity Storybook series under the strapline Colour Your Team!. The collection combines storytelling, colouring and interactive activities, encouraging children to read, draw, imagine and celebrate the sports they love. It demonstrates my ability not only to illustrate and design children's books, but also to develop existing ideas into engaging, commercially viable publishing projects.
