I am Karl Meszlényi, a visual artist living in Úrkút, Hungary. My practice layers natural pigments, minerals, and industrial materials to create meditative, tactile surfaces. From video art to installations and performances, my work centers on experiments with materiality and the transformative potential of layered substances.
I let components interact freely, and I perceive uncertainty as a primary creative force. The process is guided by the intrinsic behavior of elements—characterful metals, dry wood, natural minerals, and industrial components—allowing the materials to speak for themselves. The resulting works reveal an inner logic of transformation rather than my direct imposition. In composition, pigments and diverse textures forge layered surfaces that blur the boundary between organic growth and deliberate human shaping. The natural environment of Úrkút and its geological heritage deeply inform my current practice, infusing the slow, noble maturation of materials into the fabric of my images. I invite viewers into a sensory meditation: time, for me, means the layering of values and the continuity of renewal.
