My name is Denice Dela Cruz, and I am a freelance artist and aspiring children’s book illustrator originally from Mexico. I began my career in visual arts and later expanded into digital illustration, earning an associate degree in my home country. I am currently living in the United States, where I am working toward my K–12 art teacher certification with a minor in studio art. Last semester, I completed an introduction to game design course, which allowed me to develop pixel art projects focused on young children. In addition to my academic background, I currently serve as a preschool teacher’s aide, working with children ages 3 to 6. In this role, I incorporate art into the classroom to support the development of fine motor skills, social interaction, and healthy self-expression. Working closely with young children every day has given me valuable insight into how they perceive the world and what kinds of images and stories truly resonate with them. Across traditional visual art, digital illustration, and interactive storytelling, my goal is to create thoughtful, engaging imagery that nurtures children’s curiosity, imagination, and confidence. I am especially interested in opportunities that allow me to collaborate with authors and editors to bring stories to life in a way that is visually compelling, developmentally appropriate, and culturally inclusive. I would be excited to contribute my artistic skills, educational background, and hands-on experience with young children to your team and your upcoming projects. Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the opportunity to share my portfolio and discuss how my work can support your publishing goals.
