paper Airhein limited edition air purifier

AIRHEIN, founded in 2016, has research and development, design, production and marketing teams in Zhuhai, Macao and Shangai. In cooperation with Zhuhai Macau Design Centre, a special edition of their innovative JAP-2 Air Purifier was developed with invited graphic designers from Macao and Portugal. This limited graphic edition was presented for the first time at Design Shangai 2020.

The Bold and simple graphic language used intends to transform this discrete and almost invisible ordinary electronic device into a sculptural graphic centerpiece with Space Age and Pop Art influence.

The final result was a success. This edition will be produced in larger scale and it will be distributed worldwide, due to extremely positive feedback that both AIRHEIN and Zhuhai Macau Design Center received.

    paper Fernando Guerra Architecture Exhibition

Fernando Guerra has been a pioneer in the way architecture is photographed and divulged in the past 22 years. Guerra’s work is regularly seen in international publications such as Casabella, Wallpaper, Dwell, Icon, Domus, A+U and many more. FG +SG has collaborated with many Portuguese architects including Álvaro Siza, Carlos Castanheira or Eduardo Souto de Moura as well as international architects such as Márcio Kogan, Isay Weinfeld, Arthur Casas, Zaha Hadid, Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, among others. In 2012 he was nominated for Canon Explorer, having been appointed ambassador for Canon Europe in Architectural Photography. In 2015 the MoMA acquired six of Fernando’s projects for their permanent collection, and in the same year Fernando won Arcaid Images Architectural Photographer of the Year and Plataforma Arquitectura’s Photography Prize Project of the year. In 2016 he was an award winner in Architizer’s Architecture + Photography category. Vestígio designed the identity for the Portuguese Architecture by Fernando Guerra exhibition, part of the ACPT strategy to promote Portuguese lifestyle and creativity around the world.

In the designer’s opinion, the strong imagery of Fernando Guerra should be included and become the main element of the poster. The idea was to create a typographic composition that could suggest construction systems and somehow become part of the image. That was archived by placing the typography on the focal point of the person in the center of the chosen photo.

A strong identity for the exhibition was created. Fernando Guerra’s reaction to the design was to print a giant version of the poster and hang it on his studio main wall…

paper Design History Society Annual Conference 2023

Design exhibitions and exhibition design have a central place in the history of design, providing us with significant milestones for understanding how designers, schools, companies, and organisations have publicly displayed work, values, and ideas. In parallel to the exercise of exhibiting design, either by following the vision of a curator or the programme of a museum or gallery, we have encountered different ways of collecting, archiving and musealizing design and its history. The DHS 2023 conference unfolds under the motto: Displaying Design: History, Criticism and Curatorial Discourses.

The idea was to create a simple visual solution able to communicate the motto, by using only colours and typography that can suggest a feeling of past and design.

The client was very surprised with the final result and the feedback was very positive.

paper Kiss & Go lanes Vila Real

Vila Real is one of the oldest cities in Portugal. The old part of the city is being updated in order to become more friendly for pedestrians, children and old people. It was necessary to design drop-off and pick-up lanes, transmitting the new feeling of the renewed and updated city - visually attractive to children and young parents.

The idea was to create a simple grid system that could adapt to all kinds of pavement in a friendly and attractive way.

Simple shapes representing basic mathematical symbols and playful shapes, resembling a Hopscotch game.

    paper PEDU Vila Real

Vila Real is one of the oldest cities in Portugal. The old part of the city is being updated in order to become more friendly for pedestrians, children and old people. It was necessary to communicate this to the population, transmitting the new feeling of the renewed and updated city - specially to younger generations (university students).

The idea was to create a communication system that could adapt to all kinds of supports, merchandising, posters, etc. in a young and attractive way. Communicate the city renewal in a way that made the population proud of the reconstruction projects. Simple shapes with different symbols of the city, showing housing, historical buildings, gardens, the city racing circuit and blue sky.

Simple and bright composition modules with strong colours and simple shapes. The endless graphic possibilities were quickly adopted by the city and its inhabitants as the identity of the new lifestyle of the old part of Vila Real. The poster became an integrant part of the city landscape and transmits a positive message, ensuring acceptance and facilitating implementation during the reconstruction inconvenience on the targeted sites.

    paper Matosinhos Market

Built between 1936 and 1946, Matosinhos Market was projected by ARS-Arquitectos. A Portuguese modernist architecture icon, characterized by its white strong light and the seaside lifestyle. A building of public interest, Matosinhos Municipal Market maintains its original function, and has been open since the first half of the 20th century. Famous for the fresh fish, it succeeds in allying the tradition of ancient markets – where visitors are confronted with a cornucopia of different delicacies and multicoloured stalls – with the architectural beauty of the surrounding space. I designed the graphic identity of the market.

Inspired by the building’s modernist shapes, modularity, tiles and color, the communication system of the Matosinhos Market is a modular system, developed to become the base for type compositions, patterns and illustrations - a reflex of the new users of this market. Posters and campaigns are designed by using only this very limited modular system.
