Dr Yifei Ren is a network security researcher, full-stack engineer, and entrepreneur with over a decade of experience bridging academic research and real-world technology deployment. He holds a PhD in telecommunications from the University of Wollongong and is an Advance HE Associate Fellow.
His technical expertise spans a wide stack: network engineering and cybersecurity (SDN, zero-trust architecture, post-quantum cryptography, encrypted protocol design), AI and machine learning (deep learning, reinforcement learning, computer vision, model optimisation), full-stack software development (Python, Go, C/C++, Dart, JavaScript; FastAPI, Django, Flutter, SvelteKit, Nuxt.js), cloud-native and DevOps (Kubernetes, Docker, microservice architecture, hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure), and embedded systems and industrial IoT (OPC UA, Modbus, PLC programming, SCADA).
His career spans research fellowships at the Cisco Curtin Centre for Networks, lecturing roles at Curtin University, and technology leadership at Innovation Central Perth — where he delivered over 40 industry-partnered projects and supervised more than 100 student interns. His industry engagements span a broad range of sectors: defence and aerospace (BAE Systems, Defence Science Centre), energy and resources (Woodside Energy, Alcoa, Innovative Energy Solutions, Western Power), agriculture and logistics (CBH Group, Pilbara Port Authority, Consmineral), telecommunications (Optus), healthcare and medical devices (East Metropolitan Health Services, Medivitals, OmniBiotech), manufacturing (Makoto Asia Pacific), and government (WA Department of Transport). He has also led confidential projects with Australian defence organisations under the Defence Science Centre’s Collaborative Research Grant program.
Most recently, Yifei founded VeilNet, a next-generation Zero Trust Network Architecture startup shortlisted by Curtin Accelerate, Antler, and backed by AWS and Supabase startup credits. VeilNet introduces a novel non-IP, non-mesh secure networking fabric combining NIST-standardised post-quantum cryptography (CRYSTALS-Kyber and CRYSTALS-Dilithium), per-packet cryptographic authentication, and a Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning routing protocol — delivering linear scalability and quantum-safe security for both enterprise infrastructure and autonomous AI agent ecosystems.
He has published in Q1 IEEE journals, contributed multiple open-source libraries (including protocol implementations in Python and Go), and led research collaborations with Cisco and Optus, producing technical whitepapers on IT/OT convergence and private 5G for industrial systems.
