Hi there! I’m Andrew Kelly, currently a freelance creative and designer, available now for remote, hybrid and on-site work. I bring a wealth of creative experience and expertise in graphic design for a range of media, conceptual ideation, creative pitching, design leadership and art direction, for many well-known brands, making me an ideal candidate for most creative design positions. In my last agency job at scarlettabbott, I played a key role in conceptualising and executing design strategies for clients, pitching ideas, providing art direction, and mentoring juniors. As a studio senior I was also the brand guardian for many of the agency’s key clients, including EY, British Gas, Arqiva, Pinsent Masons, Rolls-Royce, Gist, Hogan Lovells, SGN, Markel UK, Nomura International, Harbour Energy and Kuehne+Nagel. My ability to develop new brand identities and oversee successful campaigns makes me a good fit to lead creative development for projects at various levels for different audiences. I have a solid grounding in design principles and a keen eye for quality execution, which are essential for creating impactful solutions that meet real goals. I relate to the values of curiosity, challenge, and commitment. I’m a firm believer in the creative hook – to grab attention and intrigue the audience – while at the same time crafting genuinely effective communications that drive lasting action, without fluff. I thrive in collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver just this, but I am just as capable working solo in my home studio. Thank you for considering my services. I am excited about the opportunity to discuss how my expertise can contribute to your success.

Work Experience

Creative consultant at scarlettabbott
January 1, 2024 - December 22, 2025
As a creative team senior, I played a key role in conceptualising and executing design strategies for clients, pitching, art direction, mentoring juniors, overseeing successful campaigns and developing brand identities.
Senior Designer at scarlettabbott
October 15, 2012 - December 31, 2023
When the agency was less than half its present size, I joined the creative team at breakneck pace and never really stopped going – quickly becoming a trusted and integral part of the business’s success. Delivering IC solutions, magazines and illustration for the likes of United Utilities, Oxfam, Currys, Coop, eBay, PPG, Santander, EY, KPMG, Asda, Morrisons, SGN, UK Power Networks, Rolls-Royce and many more.
Senior Designer at Thirty5 Media and Communications
December 1, 2010 - June 30, 2012
In this role I started as the sole designer, responsible for setting up the design studio from scratch, eventually recruiting more talent to the team. I also designed the company’s corporate identity, including the website, and acted as brand guardian. Reporting directly to the owner-manager, I oversaw all projects from brief to production. Acting as a de facto design department for our biggest client, I developed concepts, ideas and visuals for everything from printed brochures to a bespoke exhibition space incorporating product displays and a meeting area over two levels.

A wedding gift for a dear colleague, this is what happens when a bunch of creative writers give the coolest guru from the design team (me) to free rein to do something to bring their words to life. Of course, when they said "something", I heard, "one of those punky-but-high-end little indie lifestyle and music mags that Borders used to sell". It helped that the words I was given to work with were *more* than worth it! Delivered on some seriously beautiful stock and sporting that 'new print' smell, this modest piece of physical media proves beyond doubt that print's charming. graphicdesigner designer illustrator editorialdesign magazine layout
