paper Lungun – A Sound Vocal of North Sumatra

Lungun is a chamber music performance that reinterprets the Batak Toba mourning chant tradition (andung) as a contemporary vocal and electroacoustic expression. Rooted in personal grief and ancestral ritual, Lungun (“coffin” in Batak Toba) explores the emotional depth of lamentation through extended vocal techniques, piano, Bataknese flute (sulim), and live electronics.
The composition is performed in a circular stage formation, symbolizing communal remembrance and cyclical life–death cosmology. Inspired by a real funeral experience in North Sumatra (2013), the piece transforms the traditional act of grieving into a sonic ritual of healing and reflection, merging Batak vocality, improvisation, and sound design.

Lungun invites audiences to witness how inherited sound traditions can speak across time, shaping new forms of mourning, memory, and ritual expression in contemporary performance.

Format: Chamber music with voice, piano, sulim Batak, and electronics
    Duration: ±20 minutes
    Year: 2023–2025
    Role: Co-Producer , Sound Designer

paper Indonesia Istimewa – A Music Storytelling of Oral Indonesian Folklore

Indonesia Istimewa is a multidisciplinary performance that transforms Indonesia’s diverse oral traditions into a powerful musical storytelling experience. Drawing from regional folklore, lullabies, epic chants, and ritual songs, the work reimagines ancestral narratives through a blend of contemporary composition, live electronics, traditional instruments, and visual media.
Each piece in the program highlights a unique story—from the mystical journeys of La Galigo to Batak andung laments—bridging oral heritage with intermedia performance practice. The project foregrounds the voices of females and marginalized individuals, positioning sound as a living archive of memory and resistance.

Developed by Indonesia Istimewa Arts Collective, the performance is designed for touring stages and adaptable for community-based workshops, involving live narration, vocal performance, and interactive sonic textures.

Funded by Ministry of Culture Indonesia (Kementerian Kebudayaan Indonesia) 2020

Format: Intermedia music performance & storytelling
Elements: Traditional vocals, multi-instrument ensemble, visuals, electronics
    Duration: ±40–60 minutes

paper Elong Lesung – A Performance Based on Bugis Agrarian Tradition and La Galigo Mythology

“Elong Lesung” is an original musical performance that reimagines the soundscape of Bugis agrarian life through contemporary electroacoustic composition. Rooted in the rhythms of Mappadendang (the communal rice-pounding ritual) and inspired by the sacred myth of La Galigo, this work blends field recordings, traditional percussion, custom-built sound patches, and live electronics to explore themes of fertility, communal labor, and cosmological balance.
The performance unfolds in a circular spatial setup, emphasizing collective sonic participation and ritual intimacy. It merges indigenous temporalities with modern audio processing techniques, creating a dialogue between ancestral ritual and technological reinterpretation.

Commissioned as part of a doctoral creative research project, Elong Lesung stands as a performative reflection on ecological identity, cultural memory, and the spiritual resonance of rice in Bugis cosmology.

    Format: Electroacoustic performance
Elements: Traditional rice mortar (lesung), modular electronics, voice, soundscape recordings
    Duration: ±30 minutes
    Year: 2025
    Roles: Composer–Performer, Researcher, Sound Designer
Presented at: Candra Mettu Hall, Bali
