I fully re-scored and re-designed the sound for the iconic opening naval siege scene from Gladiator II – the Battle of Numidia – creating everything from scratch for a fully cinematic, immersive experience.
Role
Sound Designer, Composer, Foley Artist, Re-recording Mixer (personal fan project)
Key Elements
Original Score
Epic orchestral composition in modern Zimmer-inspired style: deep dramatic strings for tension, heroic brass, taiko & anvil percussion for impacts, ethnic North-African influenced choirs, subtle electronic layers. Tempo and crescendos precisely synced to the edit — rhythmic oars → arrow volleys → tower collisions → full chaos.
Sound Design & Foley
Every element rebuilt contextually:
Roman fleet oars: real oar recordings + wood/creak layers
Arrow whistles: whips + bowstring releases
Ballista impacts: industrial cords + meat/wood/melon foley hits
Burning oil & fire: real flames + hot-plate sizzles
Naval crashes: metal sheets, chains, heavy pool splashes
Battle cries: multi-layered group recordings (Latin/Numidian style) + spatial processing
Techniques
Classic foley with custom props, digital sound design (granular synthesis, convolution reverb for huge spaces), final mix in Dolby Atmos for true 3D depth and immersion.
Outcome
A silent scene transformed into an intense, realistic epic — sweat, fire, blood and grandeur brought to life, paying homage to the franchise while adding my personal signature.
