I’m a longtime recording professional with a career spanning songwriting, singing, and studio work from the 1970s Nashville scene through the Florida studio era. I started as a songwriter/singer at 17 with Mempro, worked with Dan Penn and Jim Dickinson, cut demos at Hi-Recording, and became part of the Outlaw era circles, backing vocalists for David Allan Coe and performing with Coe on his Columbia LP The Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy. I’ve logged many roles as a producer and engineer across studios in Memphis, Nashville, and Florida, and I love reviving old tapes with modern gear.
In 2005 I bought Playground Recording Studio in Valparaiso, FL, upgraded it with a Neve and 24-track, and have spent the last decade-plus transferring catalogs and administering IP for Minaret Records and Chu-Fin Musi BMI. My current quest is to bastarize old recordings to be ready for future listeners while preserving the soul of the original performances. I can discuss Ardent, Phillips, HiSo, and the Beale Street days, as well as the craft of recording, mixing, and archiving tape-based music.
