Hi, I’m Joshua! I’m a frontend developer with a deep love for clean code, collaboration, and a background in opera performance! Before diving into tech, I was on stage bringing stories to life with music, and now I bring that same passion and precision to building thoughtful, user-friendly web apps. I’ve led projects that streamline healthcare workflows and reduce insurance denials, and I care deeply about creating tools that are not just functional, but pleasing to the eye and easy to use. I’m big on open and honest communication, continuous learning, and fostering a work environment that’s supportive, blame-free, and full of curiosity. Also, yes, I still sing! 😁

This portfolio site is my little digital home — built with Next.js and styled to reflect both my personal aesthetic and professional work. I designed it to be clean, responsive, and easy to navigate, with light/dark mode support and a focus on showcasing the projects I’m proud of, from healthcare tools to weather apps and beyond.
One special detail: the logo at the top of the site is my family crest from Japan. Including it felt important — it’s a quiet nod to my heritage and a reminder that all the work I do is deeply personal. Whether I’m writing code, leading a project, or collaborating with a team, I bring that same sense of care, identity, and craftsmanship into everything I build.
This site is more than just a portfolio — it’s a reflection of who I am as a developer and as a human being.
Hoken Hub is a modern insurance reference app I built to help hospital and clinic staff find the right plan information quickly and accurately — no more outdated spreadsheets or digging through messy folders. The name Hoken (保険) means “insurance” in Japanese, and I wanted the app to feel like a trusted, well-organized hub — clean, easy to use, and built with real-world workflows in mind.
I built it using Vite, React, and Bootstrap, with a secure backend powered by Node.js, Express, and MongoDB Atlas. It supports admin login, role-based access, and image uploads via Cloudinary so staff can see actual insurance card examples. Users can filter by plan type (like Medicare or Medi-Cal), search by prefix or payer code, and even access key portal links and phone numbers — all from one place.
Hoken Hub is fully responsive and designed for the people who actually use it day to day. It’s been used by real hospital teams to reduce insurance denials and simplify onboarding, and it reflects my passion for building software that’s not just functional, but genuinely helpful.
Yomimono is a cozy, beautifully minimal bookstore app I created for book lovers who want a clean, no-fuss way to browse and manage their personal library. Yomimono (読み物) means “reading material” in Japanese, and that gentle, papery aesthetic inspired the entire design — soft colors, subtle textures, and a scroll-like layout that feels peaceful and inviting.
I built the app using Vite and React, styled with Tailwind. Books can be added, edited, or browsed with ease. The backend is powered by Node.js, Express, and MongoDB Atlas, with secure admin login and full CRUD functionality.
Yomimono is all about creating a space that celebrates reading — simple, intuitive, and designed with care.
Mochi Weather is a soft, simple weather app I built to bring a little warmth and personality to checking the forecast. I wanted it to feel like a calm, cozy moment — not a cluttered dashboard — so each screen is paired with a beautiful background image that matches the current weather, whether it’s foggy, sunny, or snowing.
I built it with Vite and React, using the OpenWeatherMap API to fetch real-time weather data, and the Unsplash API to dynamically pull in curated background images that reflect the local weather conditions. It’s lightweight, fast, and fully responsive — designed to feel great on both mobile and desktop. I also added dark mode support to keep it easy on the eyes.
It’s a small app, but it reflects a big part of how I like to build: thoughtful, user-focused, and just a little bit charming.
