Hello, I’m Lou Caimano, a saxophonist, composer, educator, and administrator who has been a working member of the Greater New York freelance music community since 1981. I’m best known for my crossover DYAD Jazz/Classical projects, featuring original compositions and inventive 3rd-stream arrangements. Lynn Bailey once described my playing as “a bit like Johnny Hodges on steroids.” Over the years I’ve written jazz fusion and new age pieces, founded Jersey Jingles, directed The Ridgewood Conservatory since 1998, and taught jazz studies and saxophone at Bemidji State University and Michigan State University, among other posts. I studied at Michigan State University and with teachers such as Jean-Marie Londeix at the Bordeaux Conservatoire, Larry Teal, Phil Woods, and Eric Kloss, and I’ve performed with Broadway orchestras, various ensembles, and many acclaimed artists across genres.
