Experience Columbia SC leases a shuttle van for the meeting and event planners that book with them. As a complimentary benefit of booking with them they offer this shuttle for the event attendees. To increase brand awareness, we wrapped the van in brand colors with a halftone image of the Columbia SC skyline. By converting the image to halftone, I was able to increase the image size without losing printing quality of the image. The halftone effect also gave the design an artistic look, which is one of the brand messaging as the city as a unique and large art community.

The ECSC Marketing team, in partnership with Historic Columbia, created a Walking Trail to tell the story of the Reconstruction Era in Columbia, SC.
The Reconstructed Walking Trail Passport was designed to be a pocket-size booklet for our Visitor’s Center staff to pass out to visitors to explore the trail on their own, this project also included an interactive website with more information about the historical locations and people.
This design is also a nod to the many historical brick structures in Columbia that were built by enslaved African Americans, with the broken brick as a metaphor for tearing down walls.
The logo for the walking trail appears on the tourism website, as well as this printed brochure. For the logo design, I incorporated the imperfect brick graphic to represent this period, where the physical city lay in ruins by the Burning of Columbia, and how society moved forward post-Civil War, as it attempted to determine the legal status of African Americans.

March 2020 Recovery Messaging for Experience Columbia SC tourism bureau that targeted locals through social media, advertising and an email campaign to hospitality partners and local stakeholders.
All leads were directed back to the website which contained up-to-date resources on restaurant and attractions openings/closings and restricted hours, as well as local ordinances that could affect visitation to these places.
The goal was to keep locals and visitors informed, and provide hope by resonating the personality of the brand.
I suggested the verbiage “Sure we’ve got grits, but we also have grit” to speak to the determination and resilience of the city during this time. I designed the website headers, which were used in several places on social media and digital signage. I designed the ads as well.
Led the visual design for a zero-waste retail package concept prototype for a current trimmer line product that is currently being sold by retail customers in the home improvement industry.

While we were on track for a record year, COVID completely shut down the tourism, events, and hospitality industry in March 2020. We wanted to tell the story of how that effected our organization, how we’re continuing to overcome those challenges, and the economic impact our non-profit organization has on our local community.
Typically the first few spreads would contain highlights from the entire organization, but with business at a standstill, I had to rethink the content for those pages. I created a content plan for each spread and met with the marketing team to get feedback. I then held a brainstorm with all of the department supervisors to learn their objectives for their individual spreads.

As the tourism bureau for Columbia SC, we want visitors to enjoy their time in the city, to inspire return visits and positive word-of-mouth recognition. The more visitors, the more support for the hospitality and accommodations industry, and ultimately a higher quality of life for residents.
As a way to encourage attendees of the Cornhole Association Worlds Championship to get out an enjoy their time in Columbia SC, this restaurant passport was created with recommendations from the event planner. Each attendee that visited five places could be entered in a drawing for a giveaway. It follows our organization’s branding, lists the event schedule of the tournament, a map of each location to help show vicinity, and lists contact information for each location.

The tourism and events industry completely shutdown during the Pandemic. Experience Columbia SC’s clients were canceling their events, our airport partners were grounding flights, our hotel and hospitality partners were seeing sales drop dramatically. Things seem bleak, but our city remained positive, and the residents rallied together to support their neighbors.
The Marketing Department pulled all of our advertising, and when it felt like the right time, we came back with “Real___.” Real Soon" to let our meetings and leisure audience know this wasn’t forever and they could still make plans to visit and book their events here in Columbia SC. The word “Real” fit perfect as it is part of our messaging, especially with our tagline being #RealColumbiaSC.
Once businesses started opening back up with safety restrictions we transitioned the messaging to “Real___.” Real Safe".
