Hi, I’m Max Zaina, a hardworking and passionate 2D animator based in Cambridge. I specialise in traditional 2D character and FX animation, with hands-on experience in TV Paint and most Adobe programs, After Effects, Animate, Photoshop, etc, and collaborative projects that meet deadlines with high quality. I love bringing stories to life through expressive motion and clear storytelling.
I earned a BA (Hons) in 2D Animation from the University of Hertfordshire and have additional experience working in a job for a 2D animation Music video. I also have experience directing activity programs and running summer animation workshops across Europe. I’m eager to learn new techniques, take on multi-priority tasks, and contribute to team success with engaging visuals.

My last Final Major Project film, which I made in my final year at Sixth Form college. The style of this film is similar to my previous film, a fairly simple film made primarily to be visually stunning and appealing to the audience. Based around these two main characters: One representing 2D traditional style animation, and animated in the classic 2D style. The other character represents 3D digital animation, who is a 3D character model animated in the classic 3D style. Each character emanates strong visual and colourful patterns based on either 2D or 3D styles between the characters.
The story of the film is simple: the two main characters are embroiled in a race against each other. The two are overly competitive and end up colliding into each other, the race coming to a halt. The film ends with 3D helping 2D back on her feet, so they can continue the race, but this time as equals and partners, instead of competitors. The simple plot being that 2D and 3D animation media were at odds with each other in the industry, but then, after a while, they come together instead and help each other out, represented by some recent animations made by both 2D and 3D animation techniques
My first Final Major Project film in my second year at Long Road Sixth Form College. The film is based on this main character, who enjoys his life and creative imagination, which is displayed through vibrant colours and patterns emanating from him and around him, all meant to look visually appealing and stunning for the audience.
This film is based on a simple plot about how the main character is confronted with the harsh and negative aspects of life, which are also represented as abstract patterns which attack the main character, pushing him to feel down and disheartened, to the brink of death. The film ends with the main character saving his companion (a bird-like creature), and in doing so, his companion gives him the power to vanquish the evil forces around him, emerging triumphant. The premise being that instead of the main character saving himself with his limited reserve of power, he saves his friend instead, which is what ultimately leads to his emergence as the victor.
I wasn’t able to complete the entire film due to limited time, so I focused on completing the most important scenes to present to the college: the Beginning, Middle, and End. I produced two versions of the film, one that comprises solely of the completed animation sections and the other, which includes the original storyboard illustrations around the animated scenes to display the entire story
