    paper PINE

    This is a peek of the unfinished personal project I’m working on (PINE) it is a dark fantasy ;

    Chapter one

    The shovel struck gravel. Damp soil thudded onto the coffin.

    No one smiled in the village of Pine. Tears carved silent paths down hollow faces. They were burying their third child in two months.

    Some called it a curse.

    It started the same way each time. First, the fainting. Then muteness. Then the seizures — violent, endless — lasting an hour, sometimes four. Days later, the victims’ bodies twisted. Deformed. Then death, mid-seizure.

    The first child died in that manner. The second, too, though her body stayed whole. The third followed yesterday.

    The eulogies all read the same: “She was brilliant. Strong. Happy. Healthy.” Until she wasn’t.

    One day the children were laughing. The next, they were gone.

    And over Pine, a dark cloud gathered.

    Two months passed.

    Children played again. Birds sang. Pine almost felt normal.

    Almost.
