I am Virasanh Chanthapanya, a writer-director-cinematographer and editor from Réunion Island. Every cut is a heartbeat for me, a relentless pursuit of the invisible thread between images where the eye of a director of photography dissolves into raw human emotion. My work is shaped by the rhythms of broadcast and the soul of cinema, built over more than a decade on the ground—from newsrooms to film sets across Réunion and beyond. At the heart of my practice is Survivre, a 15-minute short I wrote, directed and produced. Selected by Canal+ Réunion through a competitive call for projects and developed with support from the CNC, the Réunion Region, and Canal+, Survivre was produced with an €80,000 budget and broadcast on Canal+ Réunion. It stands as a statement that cinema born in the Indian Ocean can carry weight and texture equal to the great storytelling traditions. My career spans intimate documentary portraits—El Azar, broadcast on Réunion 1ère—to high-energy formats for ARTE, France TV Slash and Antenne Réunion. As a Video Journalist for Tracks on ARTE and as cinematographer for Champion(s), I bring an authentic eye to any story, any format, without ever losing emotion.
