I'm Xena Brittle, a UI/UX designer and creative designer specializing in games and interactive experiences. I recently completed a BA Hons in Computer Games Modelling and Animation at the University of Derby and am based in Derbyshire. I’m seeking a UI/UX designer role for games or websites/apps, where I can blend visual storytelling with user-centered design. My project experience includes building a WordPress site for Derby’s Urban Sustainable Transition (DUST) and contributing 3D assets for Unreal Engine 5 city-wide projects. I’ve collaborated with cross-functional teams, managed timelines and communicated designs accessibly to diverse audiences. I’m proficient with tools like Figma, Maya, Unreal Engine, Substance Painter, Blender, and the Adobe Creative Suite, and I enjoy turning research and constraints into intuitive, engaging interfaces.

Derby's Urban Sustainable Transition Website Design

Last summer I worked for Derby’s Sustainable Urban Transition (DUST) designing their website using wordpress. They eventually ended up using the Derby Univerity website to promote themselves, not because of quality but to make everything easily findable. On this project, I learned how to structure information architecture and design the website so it is understandable to a wide range of people. Design choices were chosen based on the organization’s mission to envision a more sustainable and environmentally freindly Derby.

    The Last Ember

For the final Game Project at uni; we had to create a game in a team. “The Last Ember” - an action adventure PC game with puzzle elements was created. As a team we leaned into the artstyle of creepy but cartoonish and not scary to suit the target audience of casual gamers ages 12 and up. I was mainly responsible of making the UI fit into the established art style by creating raster graphics of appropriate sizes of polished iconography and status bar textures. I also helped out with the environment art team to create a modular archetecture system for buildings in the environment.

The game can be found on -

We have also entered the game into The Rookies Game Awards 2025 - https://www.twine.net/signin

    Rachel's Educational Adventures

For Independent Studies; the investigation I undertook was about how to create an effective UI for a click and point educational game to help KS2 children learn maths. Of course there was writing for the dissertation, and research was undertook to get a thorough understanding of the target audience as well as surveys and data analysis to validate the findings, but the creative artifact made for this project was “Rachels Educational Adventures”, an educational game design has a cartoon story so it is like the children are learning alongside relatable characters and engaging storytelling to help them focus and learn in a fun way.

Gamified education and whether these methods of learning are effective have been a debate for the last 20 years or so and are still relevant now and in the foreseeable future. Therefore, I conducted an A-B test with Parents and Teachers of Primary School Children to see if the cartoon story version had any positive or negative difference to a version of the game which just contained maths questions.

Not only did the results show that all the strategic objectives for making an effective UI/UX design for the audience had been achieved; they also showed that learning in a fun way with cartoon stories and characters was more effective and preferred. The target audience even asked for the graphics to be more appealing to have more of an emotional connection. This was done by giving each character sprite different facial expressions and poses; as seen in the character sheets.

A Figma Prototype of the design can be found here; better viewed on PC, laptop and Tablet devices (Please note, as it is a design software, some programming such as presenting accurate scores may not be availbale) - https://www.twine.net/signin
