Alex Baiz Perry is an electroacoustic composer, sound artist, and pianist whose work explores the intersection of acoustic performance, electronic sound, and improvisation. Working with piano, analog synthesizers, modular systems, and digital processing, Alex creates immersive sound environments that unfold through timbre, texture, resonance, and gradual transformation. Alex’s compositional practice draws from improvisation and sound synthesis, often treating electronic systems as both instruments and compositional partners. Alex is interested in the ways sound can create a sense of place and atmosphere, as well as in the tension between structured composition and the unpredictability of live performance. The work ranges from intimate piano-based pieces to layered electronic environments and modular performances. Alex holds a Master of Music in Performer-Composer from The New School, with a focus on electroacoustic composition and sound synthesis, and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Rutgers University. Alex’s work has been presented at venues including Roulette and the Newhouse Center, and the 2023 release Indigo Mirror explores the intersection of piano, electronic sound, and improvisation. Alongside an artistic practice, Alex has extensive experience as a pianist, composer, and music educator. Alex is particularly interested in sound as a medium for creating immersive experiences and in developing new relationships between live musicianship, electronic instruments, and composition.
