Arturo Capur is a Mexican composer, sound designer, improviser, and double bassist. His work encompasses music for double bass and electronics, as well as chamber music, with a focus on timbre experimentation and the gradual development of motivic cells. His music has been performed in venues such as the Vasconcelos Library, the Manuel Enríquez New Music Forum, DePaul University (Chicago), the Blas Galindo Auditorium, and the New Music on the Point festival. Additionally, he has participated in workshops with renowned ensembles and performers, including the Mexico City Wind Quintet, Wapiti Ensemble, Irvine Arditti, JACK Quartet, and the creative music ensemble led by Dana Jessen at New Music on the Point 2023.
Recent projects include the soundtrack for the documentary Raíces, premiered in late 2021. In 2022, he presented Cuando no está pasando mucho, todo lo que sucede importa (When not much is happening, everything that happens matters), a work for 12 double basses and electronics. That same year, he released Jardín de Piedras (Rock Garden), a 30-minute video featuring juxtaposed improvisations recorded in the rock garden of Mexiquillo, Durango.
In October 2023, he composed Mutualismo for the Árbol que nace torcido art house. This piece distributes 3 violins, 1 viola, 2 cellos, 1 double bass, and 1 ondes Martenot throughout the three-story house. In 2024, he was part of OneBeat Virtual.
Arturo studied composition at the Centro de Investigación y Estudios de la Música (CIEM) with José Julio Díaz Infante, María Antonieta Lozano, Enrico Chapela, Esteban Chapela, and Victor Rasgado.
