Education

Interactive Media Design - Bachelor of Arts at Northumbria University
September 1, 2015 - June 30, 2018
Grade: 2:1 | After falling short of a 1st by a frustrating 1 mark, I graduated from Northumbria University in 2018 with an second class honours, upper division (2:1) in Interactive Media Design. In my three years at university, I improved my skills within Adobe CC (specifically, Premiere Pro, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Ableton Live, and also ventured into coding - using the Arduino microcomputer and IDE.
Design - Master of Arts at University of Sunderland
September 1, 2018 - November 29, 2019
Grade: Distinction | I focused my study on the role that visual design plays in music by creating several outcomes: a 13-piece poster series based on an album tracklist, a video chronologising and celebrating the growth and history of music visuals, a 12-piece graphic shirt series (again, interlinked with an album tracklist), a sound-reactive, Arduino programmed, LED lamp, and a North East centric 35mm film photography album - brought to life with a custom developed AR app. I wanted to work in a multitude of mediums to challenge myself, and expand my knowledge in areas such as augmented reality, which I had previously never experimented in before, but have come to really enjoy. I consider myself to be really imaginative, and when conjuring up this visual/audio playground, I was determined to see every part of it through. The course allowed for an environment in which all kinds of designers with varying experience both helped and learnt from one another. It proved to be a really formative experience.

uniE621 Paramore: The Forum Exclusive Merch
Off the back of the MSG success, I was asked to design two limited edition designs for Paramore’s two sold out nights at the Kia Forum in California. The brief was for the designs to be very 90s inspired, and Hayley wanted to feature photos of the full seven-piece touring band: the three ‘official’ members of Paramore, and the ‘Parafour’. I wanted it to look like an old-school, screen-printed event poster - boasting some bold, classic looking type and full colour gradients. I was inspired by Hatch Show Print in Nashville, and their age-old techniques and layouts after a visit there in 2018. The poster ended up being printed on holographic stock, so all the white in the design looks metallic and reflects the light. graphicdesigner designer shirtdesign
uniE621 Matilda (1996) Movie Capsule for Super Yaki
I approached Super Yaki, a big cohort of movie lovers from Austin, TX, to co-produce a merch collection inspired by the Devito-directed classic. They gave me free rein, and I felt so excited about trying to encapsulate the film, I came up with 16 complete designs that we purposed for all sorts of apparel - sweaters, pins, tote bags, notebooks, hats. In November 2021, we both did a print-run from either side of the Atlantic. Matilda herself (Mara Wilson) even copped a couple of things, which we were delighted about! cinema movie graphicdesigner designer merch shirtdesign
uniE621 Paramore: Exclusive London Poster for Sold Out London O2 Shows
In the run up to their UK/IE tour in April 2023, Paramore approached me to ask if I would design a limited edition, commemorative print for their 2 sold out shows at the London O2 Arena. They were sold exclusively in a pop-up storefront in the O2’s own mall that surrounds the arena. It was a small run of 200 prints, but they sold out quickly. All proceeds from sales went to charity. I went along to both nights, and the staff running the store told me that a ton of people had come in and said “my friend designed this poster!” (which made me cry a little), but it was very, very affirming and surreal to see my work in person, and to be a small visual part for such massive, milestone shows for the band. graphicdesigner designer merch
uniE621 Jonas Brothers: Pittsburgh, PA Event Poster
In August 2023, I was asked to design a poster for the Jonas Brothers’ arena show in Charlotte, NC. Upon seeing the first round of submissions, another design was approved for their Pittsburgh, PA show. The brief required certain titling and text (i.e. the tour name, the venue, the date), a photo or some sort of homage to the city the show is in, clear feature photos of each of the brothers, and an Americana leaning. This one was inspired by old show posters in the 60s, hence the little ‘The Fabulous’ tagline in the corner. I gave it a slightly faded/worn look without ageing it too much, and had a bit of fun with the usage of different retro fonts - my favourite here is probably the subtitling, bouncy typeface. designer merch posterdesign
uniE621 After Laughter: 2nd Anniversary Merch
Paramore’s former parent label, Warner Music, approached me in April 2019 to commission 3 designs for their official webstore. Hayley expressed interest in the designs initially, before their management reached out to me. They went online to celebrate 2 years of Paramore’s ‘After Laughter’. This was my very first official collaboration with the band! designer merch tshirtdesign graphicdesigner paramore
uniE621 Paramore Webstore Relaunch: Collaborative Merch
I was one of four artists + designers that Paramore handpicked to be a part of their new range of collaborative merch! They're available on the band's newly relaunched site - in line with them now being independent, and out of their long contract with their label. This is a landmark moment too, as on top of the traditional flat fee, the band are also paying a royalty per item sale to the designers. This is near enough unheard of, so knowing that Paramore have gone the extra mile to make sure that we're fairly compensated is amazing. I've been a massive fan of theirs for over half my life now, and making things that revolve around them for as long as I can remember - so to be seen and appreciated for it in this way just blows my mind (see the last photo for something straight out of the time capsule). My contributions to the collection are: A notebook inspired by their song 'You First', featuring the song's main refrain "everyone is a bad guy". I wanted something punchy, rough around the edges, and an immediate and obvious image of betrayal. I used 3D imaging with models for the figures, and crossed over to Photoshop to add the hand-drawn style elements. A crewneck sweatshirt with an embroidered image of a wrecked van, straight out of the band's 'Thick Skull' music video - but set on fire. They toured in this type of van in their youth, so this speaks to the symbolism of deliberately crashing the vehicle that drives the band, and the decision to move on - no matter how violent, or the resulting mess. I stretched and distorted some type in Illustrator for a big, impactful backpiece. A tote bag with the same design, but in the original colours I opted for back in March - blue and red. After watching the music video, I immediately felt that the van was such a focus, and so relevant to their story. I had to make it a centrepiece. A tarot set, each card depicting a track on Paramore's last album, 'This Is Why'. I got these printed last year in metallic red foil and loved how they turned out, each with bespoke boxes + guidebooks written by my friend Lauren Ritchie. I love that this is being featured, as it feels like more of an unusual offering in a merch spread. Even if they're not used like they're intended to be (for readings), they would look cool lined up and framed! Very thankful to be asked back by Paramore, and excited to be a part of this new chapter with them! They sincerely deserve their flowers - a thoughtful, compassionate group of people, and a band for the ages.
