Debra Young is the owner and creative lead of Expect More, bringing a career that spans big-agency advertising, charity leadership, and multi-sector consultancy. With a foundation in major advertising agencies, Debra went on to lead the creative direction of a charity organisation, delivering content and marketing collateral for other charities and non-profit organisations.
Her client experience includes well-known brands such as Vodafone, Ascot, Takeda, and Covance, alongside extensive work within the scientific and pharmaceutical sectors, providing web design, marketing collateral, and ongoing marketing services for organisations including Tutela and Solentium. Debra has also worked across manufacturing and engineering, supporting clients in cold storage solutions (ISD Solutions), tablet press machinery, stock control systems, fabrication, and the nuclear sector.
A strong advocate for purpose-driven design, Debra has delivered creative, digital, and consultancy services to sustainable and renewable organisations, including the design of dashboards and warp control panels. Her public sector experience includes clients within the NHS, mental health, and inclusion sectors, as well as work with Age Concern, the Red Cross, and multiple local authorities.
Alongside client work, Debra provides consultancy at both business and educational levels, teaching design, marketing, advertising, and strategic conceptual thinking to non-design professionals. Her teaching and consultancy work draws on disciplines such as semiology, branding, and conceptual marketing, helping organisations and individuals think more clearly and creatively about communication.
Debra has supported early-stage start-ups through their growth journeys, while also working with blue-chip corporate businesses, giving her a broad and practical understanding of design across IT, third sector organisations, charity, leisure, construction, pharmaceutical, scientific, retail, and food industries.
