Debut single - the first official release that captured attention and laid the foundation for my sound
Deeply personal storytelling, turning grief into art by writing to a relative I never met
Minimal, emotive production and vulnerable vocals, emphasising intimacy and raw emotional honesty
Resonated widely - praised by critics and listeners for its emotional weight and aesthetic beauty
Provided early validation: showed me music’s capacity to heal - both for myself and for listeners dealing with loss, identity and mental health
“Boy With the Winfields and the Wild Heart” is the song that introduced me as flowerkid to the world. Written when I was just starting out, the single channels grief, loss, memory, and hope into a tender, intimate alternative-pop ballad.
The song is dedicated to a family member I never met - an uncle who died by suicide before I was born. Through this track, I try to bridge that absence: on a camping trip alone, I sat with my journal and imagined talking to him, writing as if he were sitting across from me.
Musically, the production is spare and emotionally led - minimal instrumentation and soft, vulnerable vocals - allowing the story and feeling to take centre stage. The warmth, innocence and rawness of the performance capture a melancholic blend of loss and longing that resonated deeply with listeners.
The response was immediate: the single was re-mixed and re-uploaded to triple j Unearthed, where it quickly gained critical acclaim - described as “divine,” “stunning,” “goosebumps-inducing,” and “gorgeous.”
Fans from across the world reached out, sharing how the song helped them process their own grief and trauma. That connection made me realise the power of vulnerability and storytelling through music.

What This Project Represents:
This song marks the birth of flowerkid. It represents my earliest commitment to unfiltered honesty, emotional vulnerability, and storytelling through music. “Boy With the Winfields and the Wild Heart” proved that even when you’re just starting out, sincerity and heart can create connection and impact - and set the tone for everything that followed.
One of my most emotionally raw releases, addressing gender dysphoria and trans mental health
One-take vocal performance, capturing real emotion and a breaking voice in the final chorus
Contrasting light, moody production that frames the heaviness without overshadowing it
Deeply personal storytelling, recounting real experiences and harmful comments from others
A comfort piece for listeners, offering visibility and reassurance to those facing similar struggles
Helped set the emotional tone for my debut EP “everyone has a breaking point”
“vodka orange juice” is one of my most vulnerable and confronting releases - a stripped-back single that deals directly with gender dysphoria, trans identity, and the emotional weight of growing up in a world that can be unkind to those who don’t fit its expectations.
Written from deeply personal experience, the song recounts real comments made to me at parties over the years, moments that pierced through my sense of self during some of my darkest internal battles. With lines like “the girls want a real boy, and you’re not that” and the confession “boy, I’ve tried to commit suicide multiple times,” the track opens an unfiltered window into the realities of trans mental health and the loneliness of dysphoria.
Musically, the production stays light, moody, and understated - acting as a fragile frame around a raw one-take vocal performance in which my voice audibly breaks during the final chorus. That unedited moment became the emotional anchor of the song, holding space for the heaviness without hiding behind polish.
Despite its weight, “vodka orange juice” has become a point of connection for listeners who see their own experiences reflected back - a quiet reminder that they aren’t alone, and that survival and honesty can coexist.

What This Project Represents:
“vodka orange juice” represents my willingness to tell the truth, even when it’s painful. It captures the essence of what the flowerkid project stands for - radical vulnerability, emotional honesty, and creating art that helps others feel seen in their darkest moments. This song marks an important point in my growth as an artist and as a person, transforming lived experience into something that can hold someone else together.

Blending haunting vocal layers with cinematic alt-pop production, the track became a breakthrough moment in my career and introduced many listeners to the core emotional world of flowerkid.
Upon release, “miss andry” resonated widely, earning critical acclaim and a 2021 Rolling Stone Australia nomination for Best Single. The song became a cultural touchpoint for fans seeking music that speaks honestly about pain, identity, and the path toward healing.

“it’s happening again” is one of my most emotionally raw and introspective singles, released in 2021. Built around vulnerable lyricism and delicate, atmospheric production, the song captures the feeling of falling back into old thought patterns, emotional spirals, and moments that feel painfully familiar.
The track blends soft, intimate vocals with cinematic alt-pop textures, creating a sound that feels both fragile and immersive. It represents a moment of internal confrontation - an honest admission of fear, looping memories, and the struggle to break free from recurring emotional cycles.
In many ways, “it’s happening again” expands on the emotional world introduced in my earlier work, offering a deeper look into the sensitivity and introspective storytelling at the heart of the flowerkid project.
