paper Designing a Premium Interface for the Future of Cycling
This case study explores the design and prototyping of Cobi – a smart bike system combining a sleek phone mount with an intelligent app interface. Created for Kickstarter and investor appeal, the project required a UI with the visual elegance of luxury automotive brands. Within a few months, a small design team crafted a unique interface experience that contributed to the campaign’s success and eventual acquisition by Bosch. As part of a three-person design team, I was responsible for UI concept development, user scenario modeling, interface styling, and component refinement. I contributed to the iterative idea exchange model and helped define adaptive design patterns tailored to cycling conditions and rider types. Studied key cyclist personas — from sports-focused riders to casual explorers — and analyzed mockups to align digital and physical design. Competitive benchmarking informed the UI direction. Each designer independently created UI directions inspired by the hardware’s form, then rotated concepts across the team. This fast-paced and frictionless workflow allowed idea evolution without ego — and with high creative energy. A unique hexagonal “pizza navigation” UI was chosen as the core system. It emphasized contextual relevance (e.g., speed vs. media), supported adaptive lighting modes, and aligned closely with the device’s physical geometry. The final prototype was aligned to real-world cycling scenarios and optimized for use on the move. The prototype and interface played a key role in Cobi’s Kickstarter campaign, raising over $200,000 and validating the product vision. The UI reflected the expectations of high-end cycling audiences — combining elegance, function, and hardware harmony — which resonated with both users and investors. The project received multiple awards for design and innovation, including the prestigious Red Dot Design Award, reinforcing its position as a benchmark in connected mobility products. The team’s rotation-based design model led to rapid evolution of ideas and avoided stagnation — a rare but effective creative process Within just two years, Cobi was acquired by Bosch. The product’s distinctive user experience and premium design were key factors in the acquisition, demonstrating the power of design-driven innovation in early-stage tech.
paper Making Energy Visible – UX That Turns Numbers into Meaning
This case study presents the early concept development for a next-generation ENBW energy app. The goal was to inspire and support the in-house team with a vision for how transparency, personalization, and sustainability could empower users to better understand and manage their energy consumption — while opening up business opportunities for ENBW through contextual upselling and smart services. As UX strategist and concept designer, I conducted user research, facilitated testing sessions on data visualisation, and developed interface concepts that balance clarity, insight, and future business value. We conducted qualitative interviews to understand how users perceive and interpret their energy data. Focus was placed on expectations around clarity, control, and emotional trust. We tested various ways to represent consumption data — from graphs to summaries — to see which formats were most comprehensible, motivating, and actionable for different user types. We structured the app’s logic and UI flows around user intent: understanding consumption, identifying potential, and building awareness — always balancing simplicity with depth of information. The concept enabled users to better understand their consumption — using context-aware visualizations that support day-to-day decisions. Based on real user data, the app revealed contract upgrade potential and relevant services (e.g., solar, smarter plans), tailored to each user’s energy context. Design strategies and feature roadmaps were adopted by EnBW’s leadership, influencing long-term digital strategy and smart home vision. The zuhause+ app supported EnBW’s sustainability goals by helping users monitor energy consumption and reduce their carbon footprint. Established a scalable design system to ensure consistent interfaces across future EnBW digital products. Usability testing showed a 35% increase in user trust and comfort managing home energy settings through the app.
    uniE621 Bundesliga App
The Bundesliga, Germany’s top football league, set out to reimagine its digital presence by launching its first in-house developed app. The aim was to build a modular MVP that not only replaced the previous solution but also laid the groundwork for a global fan experience—one that could compete with international benchmarks like the English Premier League. At the heart of this challenge was the question: how can we design an app that speaks to both local passion and international curiosity? As a UX Designer, I was involved from the earliest stages—supporting the product team with user research, journey mapping, and early MVP framing. We began by identifying the core needs of different fan segments: long-time domestic supporters, international viewers discovering Bundesliga content online, and lifestyle-driven users with limited team allegiance. The research involved interviews, persona development, and mapping out fan behaviors before, during, and after the match. Our focus quickly centered on enhancing the matchday experience. Through collaborative design sprints, we explored multiple directions and distilled them into a clear MVP strategy. Key concepts included personalized live match feeds, curated highlight reels, and gamified interaction moments designed to foster engagement without feeling like just another social platform. We deliberately avoided superficial features and instead built emotional touchpoints grounded in real fan rituals. The result was a fully structured MVP concept with a phased rollout strategy—balancing immediate usability with long-term scalability. The work helped guide internal decision-making and was used to align stakeholders across departments, both in product and marketing. More than just a feature list, the concept became a vision for how Bundesliga could connect emotionally and digitally with its global fanbase.
