As the Lead Backend Engineer, I successfully designed, developed, and scaled the backend architecture for Odibets (Kenya) and Wasafibet (Tanzania), two of the region’s leading online betting platforms serving hundreds of thousands of users across web and mobile channels. I was responsible for the core betting engine, API ecosystem, integrations, performance optimization, and platform reliability.

The project involved integrating more than 40 third-party service providers, including sports data feeds, betting odds providers, virtual games, casino game providers, payment gateways, match result providers, security and fraud detection services, KYC verification platforms, and risk management systems. I architected a scalable microservices-oriented backend capable of processing high transaction volumes, real-time odds updates, bet placements, settlements, wallet transactions, and promotional campaigns with minimal latency.

I led the design and implementation of secure RESTful APIs consumed by web applications, Android and iOS mobile applications, and partner platforms. The system was engineered for high availability, fault tolerance, and horizontal scalability, ensuring uninterrupted service during peak sporting events with thousands of concurrent betting transactions per minute.

In addition to technical leadership, I collaborated closely with product teams, operations teams, compliance stakeholders, payment providers, and third-party vendors to ensure seamless integrations and regulatory compliance. I also implemented monitoring, logging, caching, database optimization, and automated deployment pipelines that significantly improved platform performance, operational efficiency, and system reliability.

The successful delivery and continuous enhancement of these platforms contributed to their growth into some of the most recognized and high-performing betting solutions in Kenya and Tanzania, supporting large-scale user engagement, transaction processing, and revenue generation in highly competitive markets.
