Madeleine Bolz is a second-year masters student in music composition at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She has presented her musicological research at the Sounds of Now Vienna Music Festival. Her music has been performed by The Juilliard String Quartet and Trio Immersio, and she has been awarded Diplóme Du Stage D’été with distinction at The European American Musical Alliance Summer Music Institute. Madeleine’s musicological research is focused on pastoral ecomusicology, specifically the liminalism of animal symbols and their inherent meanings in pastoral works. When not writing music, Madeleine seeks out the negative spaces between abstracts and ideals.

La Tempête du Deuil for Piano Quintet is a three-movement work completed in fulfillment of my Masters of Music Composition Degree at Southern Methodist University. The first movement primarily serves to introduce the listener to the harmonic language and melodic-motivic content explored in the subsequent movements through contrasting themes. The second movement is a funeral march, and the third movement is a scherzo pastoral.
