‘Bad’ art is good for you!
Hey, I’m Mason :D
I think that fun, silly art art can be a beneficial outlet to help deal with day-to-day existential dread. Sometimes art doesn’t have to be serious to be meaningful or important, because adding a little bit of joy to someone’s day is more powerful than we know.
At the same time, I strongly believe in the ability of art to uplift marginalized people in a meaningful way. Art is a crucial avenue of teaching empathy for marginalized experiences and pushing for positive change. I value social advocacy and human rights, and I strive to become a more well-rounded and empathetic person in my personal life by listening to the experiences of others.
I love exploring the overlap of these two concepts and creating art that teaches us to embrace and find joy in the parts of being human that are weird and hard to make sense of. I love ‘bad’ or ‘unskilled’ art because I believe it is no less thought-provoking or meaningful than that which is highly realistic.
I’m passionate about creating visual art of many mediums and styles, but I mainly love creating things that are silly, colorful, unusual and a little bit strange. I attended Savannah College of Art and Design for a BFA in Illustration. While there, I built on my lifelong self-taught art experience under the guidance of industry-leading professionals.
