Jaguar Land Rover is at the forefront of automotive design. Set within the beautiful Warwickshire countryside, our stunning world-class design facility at Gaydon houses a modern studio layout which encourages communication and creative collaboration between teams. The ability to work well in a team environment is critical to any candidate applying for this role.
 
The Design department is responsible for the creation and delivery of all visible surfaces on the exterior and interior, including the colour & materials and the User Interface of all Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. We are responsible for the creative process at the earliest concept stage of a project, generating creative, feasible solutions, releasing surfaces for tooling, and monitoring designs through to production. To support this wide remit, a diverse and multi-disciplined team comprised of Designers, Engineers, Digital & Physical Sculptors and an A-class Surfacing team are housed within our facility.
 
This exciting opportunity is based in the heart of our design facility and offers the ability to define and shape both our off-board (out of car) digital client touchpoints and also influence the look of our on-board (in car) future UI design. Digital interaction is now a fundamental part of their design success. Working as a core part of a team of designers, this is a chance to create, develop and define a modern luxury experience for our clients. We aim to make our client’s lives as easy and effortless as possible through intuitive and compelling design.
 
We are based in Gaydon, Warwickshire but very much open to remote working to attract the right talent for this particular role. There is also the opportunity to be based at our new London Hub.
 
The role of the UI Lead Designer is highly creative. You will set out the vision and take the lead on the interface development for our future vehicles and touchpoints. In doing this, you will need to demonstrate your understanding of the modern luxury customer mindset. You will be Passionate about Ul and motion design and deliver compelling UX/UI designs. Generate wireframes, storyboards, graphics, Ul interactions, animations and other assets for both 2D & 3D applications including web interface, phone apps, touchscreens, just to name a few. You will need to engage and inspire the wider business by generating creative solutions to meet our strategic objectives. These objectives will be set by and agreed with the Chief Designer and Studio Director.

As a Lead UI designer, you will also be responsible for the development of our less experienced Designers. You will become a professional mentor and coach to them, helping to improve their skills and develop their individual career paths.
 
 
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Ability to deliver the production of digital creative visual assets at pace
  • Provide guidance to a team of multi-skilled User Interface Designers.
  • Flexibility in delivery of assets and timescales, adapting to changing priorities
  • Expert communication and the ability to present User Interface Design Concepts
  • Creative problem-solving abilities
  • Commitment to design execution and continuous learning
  • Understanding of the Design process and knowledge of design roles, from concept generation to production.
  • Experience of aesthetic judgement of User Interface Design and its use of Vehicle imagery within the concept
  • An exceptional understanding and passion for luxury brands and experience
  • Have an understanding of the 3D CGI process in both Realtime and Pre-Rendered content and how it can be best utilised in a UI/UX output.
  • Assist, when requested with all virtual reviews, presentations, market research events or product launches located within JLR Design or externally
  • Apply common sense at all times seeking the most cost-effective methods of achieving the task of delivery of Visual stimulus to a fit-for-purpose standard, for reviews, with the given timelines.
  • Actively seek cost reductions and constantly monitor expenditure.
  • Comply with company policy and procedures, particularly with Design Studio and data security.
     
    WHAT YOU’LL NEED
     
    Essential:
  • Expertise in Creative UX/UI design.
  • Applied interaction and motion design
  • Experience using 2D design compositing & editing tools e.g. Photoshop, After Effects & Premiere & Figma
  • Strong foundational graphic design skills (colour theory, composition, typography etc)
  • Proactive team player, who is happy to be hands on and has a flexible approach to work and capable of assisting to ensure the tasks are achieved against set targets
  • Self-motivated, uses initiative and problem solver – able to deliver quality and consistency in a complex, highly demanding environment
  • Strong communicator with a proven track record of demonstrating logic and analytical thinking
  • Resilient and enthusiastic, an individual able to deliver results under pressure, whilst responding constructively to challenging new ideas and inputs
     
    Desirable:
  • Knowledge of photography and image composition
  • Experience using 3D modelling & visualisation tools e.g. VRED, Maya, Blender & Unreal
