Position: Assistant Producer (Audio Drama)

Contract: Fixed term twelve-month contract or attachment

Overview:

• The role is based in Cardiff and involves working in an award-winning team producing drama, readings, and comedy content for BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Wales, and BBC Sounds.
• The Assistant Producer will contribute to the development and production of audio drama, comedy, and readings.
• They will work closely with writers, actors, and technical producers to bring scripts to life and shape the future sound of audio drama.
• Additionally, there may be opportunities to assist with the development, research, and story-lining of factual documentaries or narrative podcast series.

Responsibilities:

• Develop new ideas and writers for radio broadcast and/or online platforms.
• Discover and nurture new writing and acting talent.
• Collaborate with writers on their programme pitches and provide script-editing support.
• Oversee the script-editing process and ensure scripts are ready for studio recording.
• Learn and develop skills in directing drama and readings for audio.
• Contribute to casting decisions for productions.
• Gain proficiency in editing using the BBC’s SADIE editing software.
• Collaborate with technical producers on sound design and final mixing.
• Act as the main point of contact for the drama team’s online and digital activities, working closely with network digital teams.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience:

• Passion for storytelling and exploring the human condition through drama.
• Experience working with writers on drama scripts and directing professional actors.
• Familiarity with various storytelling mediums, such as film, TV, podcasts, radio, or theatre.
• Ability to identify and work with talented writers to bring out their best work.
• Understanding of the unique storytelling capabilities of audio.
• Strong appreciation for ear-bending sound design.
• Ideally, experience in preparing content for social media and possessing technical skills in this area.
• Strong team-player with excellent organizational skills.

Job Impact:
