We are looking for talented writers who are ready to write and research with the goal of helping expand Ranker’s music coverage with unique and exciting ideas!

This is a great opportunity to write for a leading entertainment site, in the top 50 of all websites in the United States.

We cover a lot of music at Ranker, but our main focus has been the mainstream and straightforward ideas. ‘Best Of’ lists work just fine, but they’re a little boring, right? We want to expand beyond this by tapping into genres, scenes, and artists with vibrant, dedicated fan bases that want to join in on the conversation because they’re excited to see their favourite musicians being covered. Do you have your finger on the pulse of what’s going on outside of the mainstream? Are you the friend who everyone comes to for music recommendations?

We’re looking for knowledgable music writers who either know everything there is to know about what’s going on in at least a few genres – or, ideally, across the whole of the music arena. We want to make sure we’re covering more indie, alternative, punk, hardcore, metal, as well as sub-genres of more mainstream categories, like bedroom pop, alternative hip-hop, and alt-country. If you know the differences between technical death metal, progressive death metal, and deathcore, you’d probably make a great candidate. If you’re constantly perusing Bandcamp, music forums, and various publications seeking out the next best thing, we want to hear from you!

This is a paid, remote, cold assignment gig. Candidates will be compensated for their work on a per-article basis, based on the length of assignment and level of research required. Quantity of assignments will be in the range of 1-3 lists per week.

Here’s what you’ll need for us to trust you with tons of assignments:

• Writing chops that enable you to create an article about anything in a clear, informative, and fun style.
• Broad, comprehensive knowledge of music across all genres, such that you can easily think of 15+ items for any list we assign you.
• Advanced, thorough research skills.
• Experience freelance writing for a major site similar in scope to Ranker.
