About this role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced VB6 (Visual Basic 6.0) Developer to join our team for a critical migration project from a legacy VB6 codebase to the .NET platform. This migration project involves transitioning a mental health software solution to a modern and scalable .NET framework. In this role, you will play a key part in analyzing, redesigning, and implementing the legacy VB6 code into the .NET environment. Your expertise in VB6 development and .NET technologies will be vital in ensuring a successful migration while maintaining the integrity and functionality of the mental health software solution.

Your Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance existing VB6 applications, utilizing COM technologies for component-based development.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand migration requirements and develop strategies for migrating VB6 applications to modern platforms.
• Analyze and assess legacy VB6 codebases, identifying areas that require migration or rebuilding.
• Implement migration strategies, replatforming VB6 applications to newer frameworks or technologies.
• Refactor and restructure VB6 code to improve code quality, maintainability, and extensibility.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate migrated components with other systems and platforms.
• Troubleshoot and debug VB6 applications, resolving issues related to COM and migration.
• Ensure compatibility and interoperability of migrated components with existing systems.
• Document migration processes, including migration plans, technical specifications, and architectural diagrams.
• Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in migration techniques and platforms.

About You

• Proficiency in VB6 (visual basic 6.0 development, with a strong understanding of its syntax and concepts and its use in COM development.
• Experience with migrating legacy applications, including replatforming or rebuilding strategies.
• Proficiency in analyzing and refactoring VB6 code for improved performance and maintainability.
• Familiarity with modern platforms and frameworks for migrating VB6 applications, such as .NET or web-based solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot COM-related issues.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
