Summary/Objective
Each year, for the month of October, the Irvin transforms itself into a haunted ship, where the ghosts come alive. It’s truly a haunted experience for thousands of visitors every year.
Actors will work diligently to be in character on the Haunted Ship and enhance the guest experience in an unimaginable way. They have a passion and dedication for the Haunt, they will possess acting ability, act as a mentor and assist with training and leading all Haunted Ship Actors.
Requirements & Competencies
- Ability to maintain a positive disposition while quickly and courteously responding to guests and coworkers.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and the tour narrative.
- No minimum education requirements for this position.
- Exceptional customer service.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Customer service experience
- One year of experience acting on the Haunted Ship or equivalent
- Supervisory or management experience preferred
Essential Functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.)
- Each day focus your efforts on your assigned space and help direct actors in your area.
- Act as a role model for volunteer actors and help to convey the DECC’s values, goals of the Haunted Ship, and maintain superior customer service.
- Ensure the preshow events are organized and tasks are completed efficiently and timely.
- Remain a point of contact for the actors assigned to your areas.
- Maintain your focus on the success of your assigned areas for the shift.
- Act as the main point of contact in the event of an emergency and/or security concerns. This position will be in charge of relaying information and following proper protocols.
- Attend meetings at the end of the evening for your group to recap the day’s events, highlighting positive events, and address relevant safety concerns.
- Each night ensure rooms are set and cleared for the next day, including personal items and trash are removed.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Schedule
This position is seasonal and part-time with a schedule based on the haunted ship season at the Irvin, primarily in the month of October. They are expected to work variable shifts and must be available to work evenings and weekends. Approximately 8-28 hours per week. This schedule is subject to change.
