Responsibilities:

• Covering presidential candidates, issues, events, and other political stories across the national landscape.
• Identify and tell stories that matter to voters.
• Demonstrate a creative eye for storytelling as you cover news of the day and pitch interesting enterprise stories.
• Find stories across the political spectrum that reflect the fabric of America, including the voices of the underreported and underrepresented communities and voters.
• Shoot, edit and broadcast quality content from the field using LiveU technology.
• Write segments for our digital and social media platforms on a regular basis.
• Breaking news across the political landscape.
• Potential on-air responsibilities on our streaming, affiliate, and radio platforms.
• Quickly turn around critical information for air, verifying its accuracy, while simultaneously getting live phone interviews, live video, transmissions and/or taped coverage of the news event.
• Assist the Special Events Unit with research ahead of key political events like debates, conventions, and elections.

Qualifications:

• Ideally, candidates should have at least 3 years of journalism experience. Political coverage experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong writing, reporting and package assembly skills
• Candidates should be passionate and knowledgeable about politics including presidential politics, campaigns, elections, and other political topics.
• Ability to multi-taskers and juggle multiple priorities.
• Looking for collaborative journalists who can work well within a team and as an individual contributor.
• Solid interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Understanding of poll/surveys and political data and trends.
• Experience developing and cultivating political sources is critical.
• Trouble-shoot quickly and efficiently in a variety of circumstances
• Demonstrate a resolution focused approach to assignments.
• Proficiency at editing using various software, such as, Adobe Premiere, Avid or Final Cut Pro
• Proficiency with shooting video, capturing audio, setting up basic lighting and using various microphones
• Ability and willingness to work long hours as news dictates which could include working on regular days off, weekends, and overnight.
• Ability and willingness to travel frequently and potentially live for an extended period in a different state.
• Ability and willingness to travel with short notice; may include overnight travel
• Valid driver’s license and passport required, with unrestricted ability to drive/fly.

Additional Information:

Hiring Salary Range: $86,000 - 96,000.
