All Souls Church Unitarian is a diverse, spirit-growing, justice-seeking liberal religious community. Our 60+ voice All Souls Choir was founded over 50 years ago as one of the first multiracial choirs in Washington, DC. We are seeking a collaborative, creative church pianist to contribute to worship services through accompanying the congregation and the choir, playing solo piano repertoire at designated Sunday Services during the year, and accompanying the choir for designated rehearsals. The Pianist/Choir Accompanist reports to the Acting Director of Music and Arts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Accompany all scheduled rehearsals of All Souls Choir during the normal choir year (Thursdays, 7:30- 9:30 p.m., from mid-August through usually ending on the third Sunday in June).
• Accompany all Sunday worship services at which the All Souls Choir sings, typically first and third Sundays, and any other special concerts or church events at which the Choir performs.
• Perform solos, accompany instrumental soloists, accompany children’s choirs, play with bands, and participate in worship/performance as requested by the Director.
• In consultation with the Acting Director of Music and Arts, selects music appropriate for theme of service.
• Perform all music required for and rehearse immediately prior to Christmas Eve services.
• Attend a monthly Music Team meeting on Zoom.
• Maintain good communication with the Acting Director of Music and Arts regarding music for services.

• Ability to provide multiple instrument or vocal skills for varied worship is a plus.
• Ability to provide occasional organ accompaniment is a plus.

EVALUATION

The Director will conduct a performance review of the Pianist/Choir Accompanist once a year.

Important evaluation factors will include musical initiative, preparedness, and general attitude and spirit of helpfulness, including punctuality and attendance.

Employment is at-will, and depends on, among other factors, performance reviews and availability of funding.

COMPENSATION:

Compensation is as an independent contractor (1099) on a “per-call” basis.

• Thursday choir rehearsals (7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.): $110
• Sunday mornings (1 service, 10:30 a.m.; plus rehearsal at 9:00 a.m.): $200
