Role Overview:

VOTE and Voters Organized to Educate are seeking a Freelance Graphic Designer and Video Producer to collaborate on creative projects. This role primarily focuses on digital and print graphic design and video editing and production – we’re looking for someone with experience who can take direction and run. If you’re a creative professional with a strong portfolio in these areas, we’d love to work with you.

Who We Are:

Voice of the Experienced (VOTE) is a grassroots, 501©3 membership-based organization founded and run by formerly incarcerated people (FIP), our families and our allies. We build power through community organizing, policy advocacy, and civic engagement. We are dedicated to restoring the full human and civil rights of those most impacted by the criminal (in)justice system. Voters Organized to Educate is our 501©4 political arm dedicated to building collective power through an educated and engaged democracy. In recent years we have won voting rights for people on probation and on long-term parole; led a statewide ballot initiative to end non-unanimous juries; helped end the reigns of an oppressive district attorney, and of the sheriff (New Orleans’ most entrenched public official). Together we have the experience, expertise and power to improve public safety in Louisiana and beyond without relying on mass incarceration.

Responsibilities:

  • Helping revitalize our websites with more dynamic, interactive content
  • Designing creative materials for our C3 and C4 the captures our respective brands, energy and movement: whether it’s stepping up the layout for our Impact Report or strategizing the look and feel for edgy campaign materials, billboards, bus shelter promotions or brochures Graphic Design:
  • Create visually stunning and impactful graphics for various purposes, including digital and print materials (e.g., mailers, reports, social media graphics, infographics, website content, bus shelter promotions, newsletters and billboard ads, etc.)
  • Tailor designs to match diverse audiences, tones, channels, and end purposes.
  • See a concept through from design to production and ensure designs align with project goals.
  • Provide a creative, innovative eye and collaborate with the team to bring fresh design ideas to the table. Video Production:
  • Produce and edit high-quality videos for a range of needs (e.g., candidate overviews, archival content, member interviews for websites, etc.)
  • Collaborate on video content planning and scripting.
  • Manage video equipment and software for top-notch production.

Qualifications:

  • Proven graphic design skills with a strong portfolio showcasing your work.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) for graphic design.
  • Experience with video production, including proficiency with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro).
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality creative work.
  • The emotional intelligence and curiosity to ask great questions and receive constructive feedback.
  • Comfort in a social justice environment where we honor, center and amplify the voices and perspectives of directly impacted people. Plus, Points:
  • Knowledge of animation and motion graphics.
  • Familiarity with web design principles and tools.
  • Experience with photography and search engine optimization (SEO).
  • Knowledge of criminal justice and prior experience in legislative, non-profit, civic engagement or campaign environment.

This is a freelance position, allowing for flexible working arrangements but will require in-person attendance of meetings and events as needed.
