Job Description

The Wellesley Centers for Women (WCW) is an academic research and action institute at Wellesley College that is focused on women and gender and driven by social change. The mission of WCW is to advance gender equality, social justice, and human well-being through high-quality research, theory, and action programs.

WCW seeks a creative, tech-savvy, and detail-oriented part-time Social Media Coordinator to support its external relations office. The Social Media Coordinator (SMC) is a 15-hour per week, non-benefited position. Under the direction of the Director of External Relations, the SMC will collaborate with external relations team members, research and project staff at the Centers, and Wellesley College students to create digital content that highlights the Centers’ research and action work.

The SMC will be responsible for planning and implementing WCW’s social media strategy, including developing campaigns, writing content, designing graphics, and video recording and editing. The SMC will also write, edit, and post content on the Centers’ website, create content for email marketing, and perform other duties as assigned.

Candidates must have a passion for gender equality and social justice issues, with a strong understanding of feminism and intersectionality. The SMC should also have an interest in using social media to tell stories, strong relationship skills, attention to detail, and comfort in learning new technologies. Flexibility is required. Problem-solving skills and familiarity with social science research are huge pluses.

This position can be remote or hybrid, with occasional work on Wellesley College campus as needed for video recording and other projects. Candidates must be available to work 15 hours per week with a flexible schedule. The successful candidate will need to be available for 2-3 set hours per week.

  • Knowledge of social media best practices and experience using social media platforms in a professional setting
  • Excellent communications and writing skills; comfort translating complex information into simple ideas
  • Strong eye for design and experience with graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Canva)
  • Experience with video editing software

  • Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate
  • Strong understanding of feminism, intersectionality, and social justice issues
