Job Description:
Canarit Audiobooks is seeking an experienced freelance producer to manage and deliver multi-cast audiobooks. We specialize in multi-cast, cinematic audiobooks that feature sound effects, music and surround sound. This role includes all aspects of production: casting, budgeting, negotiating with talent, directing and managing post-production. The producer will work with Canarit’s in-house producers and sound engineers. The producer must be able to work with publishers, narrators and post-production experts to manage projects from the earliest stages through to completion. An understanding of audio recording, studio production, sound design, Quality Control and multicast production is required.
Role description:
- Cast, produce and deliver audiobooks
- Collaborate with authors and agents to establish and secure casting choices
- Build and manage production budgets and negotiate voice actor fees
- Direct voice actors when required, either in-house or remotely
- Secure audio from voice actors under set deadlines
- Manage in-studio recording when necessary
- Listen to rough mixes and provide detailed feedback for revisions
- Quality check for ACX standards
- Monitor and track all phases of post-production
- Collaborate with in-house staff to trouble-shoot production challenges
What you’ll bring:
- Detailed knowledge of audio production and emerging trends in audiobook publishing
- Editorial experience in content development, including script adaptation for audio formatting
- Familiarity with audio DAWs such as Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic, etc.
- Post production knowledge of SFX, dialogue and music editing
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, especially production management and post production
- Experience working with voice actors and recording studios
Ideal Experience:
- At least 2-4 years in audio production, either in a publishing house or at an audiobook production studio. Candidates with adjacent media experience – radio, podcasts or broadcast media will be considered
- Direct experience of working with talent including professional narrators, author-narrators
- Experience as an Audio Engineer for audiobooks: setting up the studio, working with voice actors, editing, mastering, file delivery. Skilled in various DAWs (Digital audio workstations)
- Experience of script adaptation, sound design and the workflow required to deliver audiobooks
- Knowledge and understanding of union rules that pertain to multicast productions
- A network of narrators, including emerging talent
- College degree preferred, but will consider candidates with equivalent experience gained through direct work within the audiobook, radio, digital media and TV industries
