Summary

R&D of A Dream Within A Dream(ADWAD) is a theatrical sound, movement & light installation piece, using an interactive narrative structure to guide audiences through an experience about dreams. In collaboration with Queer & POC artists cross-disciplines between circus, video games/technology and theatre.

The Role

We are looking for a 3D character designer for a small video game built in Unity 3D that will be part of the installation for A Dream Within a Dream. The character will be based on a brief and moodboard from the lead artist Symoné. The aesthetic and visual appearance are already set.

The tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Working with the lead artist on the creation of the main character’s 3D model
• Creating the costume including wig, clothing, and high heel skates according to the brief set by the lead artist
• Making sure the character is rigged… and basic animations can be implemented from presets
• Ensure artwork is optimized for interactive real-time usage
• Creation of a handover document with details on the asset

About you

Skills required:

• You have up-to-date knowledge of modern modeling packages and techniques
• Ideally Max and Maya
• You can efficiently create low poly models
• Polyflow is clean and is animation ready
• You have an understanding of material definitions and industry-standard texture creation techniques and software
• You can create accessories, hairstyles, and clothes
• Basic knowledge of integrating into a Unity3d project
• Troubleshooting and addressing issues with rig and animation

Other relevant skills include:

• Strong anatomy knowledge
• An eye for detail
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

About the lead artist

Symoné is a queer black multidisciplinary movement artist, alt-circus and live artist, and cabaret performer newly living in Folkestone, UK. They have been working professionally since 2016, beginning their performance and skill training with The Roundhouse, Duckie, and Marisa Carnesky. They are self-taught and work primarily with hula hoops and high heel skates, in addition, they pole dance and vogue, and they are a member of drag king collective, Pecs drag kings. They are also a Guinness World Records Holder. Their work focuses on exploring what circus is and could be, by exploring context, fusing skills and dance, and including narrative and research in psychology and the human psyche, queer ecology, voyeurism, and playing with the human gaze. Symoné performs in many different contexts; corporate, live art, cabaret, commercial and underground club spaces all around the world. They’ve worked with clients such as; Instagram Editorial, Peaches, Kate Nash, Taylor Mac, Sun Ra’s Arkestra, Samsung, La Soirée, Machel Montano, and Jon Hopkins to name a few. They currently have three live art and outdoor productions; Fierce Flow, UTOPIAN (t&c’s apply) [supported by Arts Council] and Euphorica which they co-direct and/or perform in.
