Job Description

Job Title: Senior Data Engineer

Contract Type: Starting ASAP

Duration: 5 months

Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid)

Rate: £450 per day (Outside IR35)

We are seeking a talented Senior Data Engineer to join our client’s team in Edinburgh for a 5-month contract. This role offers the opportunity to work on exciting projects involving major version upgrades, migrations, automation, and monitoring improvements in a hybrid environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead major version upgrades of on-prem MongoDB and Postgres databases.

- Support development teams with on-prem migrations to AWS RDS.

- Assist in migrating on-prem Grafana instance to containers deployed on OpenShift.

- Collaborate with the Database team on BAU tasks such as upgrading, patching, automation, and monitoring improvements.

- Fix support requests raised by stakeholders and actively participate in defining and prioritizing the database roadmap and backlog.

- Engage with company communities of practice to share knowledge and experience.

- Knowledge sharing with team members and developing documentation and artefacts.

- Ensure existing on-prem estate meets service standards until migration to AWS is completed.

- Support disaster recovery assurance of digital services.

Essential Skills/Experience

- Significant commercial experience with MongoDB, Postgres, AWS IAM, S3, EC2, RDS, Ansible, Typescript, CDK, CloudFormation, SQL, and monitoring solutions.

- Experience in making excellent quality software with other people and working with business stakeholders to deliver value.

- Design and implementation of solutions using service-based and serverless architecture.

- Excellent collaboration, communication, and teamwork skills.

- Experience working in Agile delivery models such as Scrum and/or Kanban.

- Cloud database monitoring, telemetry, intelligence tools, and processes.

- Defining infrastructure-as-code and testing disaster recovery procedures.

- Knowledge of data replication and high-availability technology.
