Job Description

The Ensemble Department is seeking a bassist to accompany students in ensemble classes. The bassist will act as part of the “house band” for regularly scheduled Ensemble Department classes and periodic additional accompanying assignments for Concerts and Special Events.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Music (preferred, but not required)
• Strong musical background in a wide range of styles

Essential Functions/Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Act as “house band” for ensemble classes
• Participate in department performances and rehearsals
• Accompany Visiting Artists’ events
• Assist students and faculty
• Possible nights and weekends required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Excellent sight-reading skills
• Strong musicianship, especially in groove
• Technical command of the instrument
• Background in Contemporary styles
• Sensitivity to vocalists’ needs
• Supportive learning environment
• Respect for personal and cultural differences

• Self-critical, committed to personal excellence
• Willingness to take on challenges
