Job Description

Laing O’Rourke are recruiting for a Design Manager to join the project team at Monklands Hospital. A Design Manager ensures that all design information is reviewed and delivered according to design management procedures for completeness and compliance with contractual obligations, including factors such as programme, buildability, safety, maintenance, and technical suitability. In addition, the Design Manager oversees the production, control, and distribution of design information at different project stages and ensures regular progress reporting of the design is in place.

The Design Manager is a senior member of the Design Job Family and Technical Function, which aims to ensure technical excellence, assurance, and performance across all projects and opportunities from pre-project stages, early engagement, work winning, through to detailed delivery. All designers are part of the Engineering Enterprise, which seeks to maximize and realize the potential of design for increased certainty on projects.

Role & Responsibilities

• Supports consultant teams to maximize effectiveness and value optimization in providing integrated design solutions that meet client needs (strategies and budgets).
• Maximizes effectiveness of consultant relationships.
• Reviews design delivery to enhance the quality of solutions and efficiency of design, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and handover of total engineering solutions for clients.
• Supports consultants in adopting LOR’s design processes, delivering with rigor, and quality project management processes, ensuring effective collaboration throughout the supply chain (using appropriate tools, including BIM/Digital Engineering).
• Captures business knowledge and capability enabling continuous improvement, innovation, and improved capability towards an Engineering Enterprise.

Requirements

• First degree in Architectural or Engineering Discipline (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical). Other appropriate construction-related qualifications plus design-related experience are acceptable.
• 5 years of experience across different procurement routes and sectors, with end-to-end experience in managing design from concept to handover.
