Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a senior illustrator responsible for the design and creation of drawings and a complex variety of original illustration projects. Responsibilities include preparing original designs, layouts, and finished artwork for a wide array of organizational, technical, and general support materials. The role also involves advising and training other illustrators, management, and customers, creating original artwork using computer graphics software, researching and recommending equipment, and producing materials that support the commander’s public affairs goals.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment: Applicants must meet specialized experience requirements as described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, GS 1020 series.

Qualifications: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 level, or equivalent in other pay systems, or hold a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or have completed three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. A combination of experience and education can also qualify for this position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of complex art methods, visual design principles, skill in drawing and painting, ability to utilize computer graphics programs, visualize images, and effective communication skills for collaboration and advising.

Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be granted for appropriate unpaid or part-time work. Volunteer work is also recognized for qualifications.

Education: Official transcripts are not required at the application time but must be submitted for verification if education is used for qualification. Foreign education must be equivalent to U.S. education.
