Job Description

Position: Senior COMPASS COBOL Developer

Location: Harrisburg, PA - Hybrid

Duration: 6 Months Contract to Hire

Rate: $ Open/Hour

Job Purpose and Summary: The Developer is responsible for using approved programming languages, operating systems and source code to create, enhance, and maintain application solutions that meet the identified functional and non-functional business requirements. Responsibilities include coding/building application solutions in a COBOL/DB2/CICS environment, assisting in migration to a cloud environment, developing and executing unit tests, performing testing of application software modifications, and ensuring quality through adherence to processes and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Code/build application solutions in a COBOL/DB2/CICS environment.
  • Assist in migration and future support of the current system in a cloud environment.
  • Develop and execute unit tests and functional test coverage.
  • Perform testing of application software modifications.
  • Follow processes and procedures to ensure the quality of technical solutions.
  • Lead and/or support code reviews and technical reviews.
  • Document all code changes.
  • Support Senior Developers in task management and design of proof of concept and prototype environments.
  • Develop and maintain code repositories according to version management approaches.
  • Assist in identification and evaluation of risks.
  • Provide rotating 24/7 on-call support for production systems and applications.
  • Perform production support activities including incident and problem management.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in COBOL, DB2, and CICS programming languages.
  • Experience with cloud environments and migration of existing COBOL code.
  • Ability to develop and execute unit tests.
  • Experience with various programming platforms and productivity tools.
  • Strong understanding of code construction fundamentals and error-detection practices.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • Ability to provide presentations and lead technical reviews.
  • Effective task management and ability to provide estimates on timelines.
  • Willingness to work on a hybrid model and provide on-call support.
