Job Description
Third Street seeks a piano accompanist for a recreational adult choir in an offsite location in the West Village. The ideal candidate is a skilled choral accompanist who enjoys working with adults and collaborating with the conductor of the choir. The choir will consist of up to 25 adult students, many of whom are participating in a choir for the first time. The accompanist is needed for 8 Fridays from noon to 1:15 pm: April 4, 11, 25; May 2, 9, 16, 30; and June 6. A weighted 88-key instrument is available on site. The final rehearsal will include a brief performance and reception for friends and families.
Responsibilities
· Collaborate with the choral director to support a group of 15 to 25 adult singers of various backgrounds in discovering the joy of making music together.
· Assist with vocal warm-ups and section rehearsals as requested.
· Be prepared to play voice parts individually and in combination.
· Prepare piano accompaniment in advance and sight-read with ease.
Qualifications
· Advanced piano skills.
· Knowledge of vocal techniques.
· Two or more years of accompanying experience in large group settings, churches, or schools.
· Attention to punctuality.
· Availability on Fridays at 12 p.m.
· Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in arts education.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
