Job Description

DexHigh is seeking a highly skilled and cinematic-level Unreal VFX Artist for a freelance or contract role on our upcoming fantasy-style, medieval-themed game. This role is ideal for artists who specialize in realistic, physics-driven visual effects with a fantasy flair — from dragon flames and arcane spells to epic battlefield FX. You’ll be bringing intense real-time effects to life using Unreal Engine’s Niagara system, helping create AAA-level visuals that power immersive gameplay, story-driven cutscenes, and boss fights.

Responsibilities

• Create highly realistic, stylized VFX for characters, creatures, environments, and combat sequences.
• Design advanced magical effects, elemental spells, dragon breath, impact shockwaves, and energy auras.
• Collaborate closely with animators and cinematic designers to sync VFX with creature movement, magic casting, and epic moments.
• Use Unreal Engine’s Niagara system to craft optimized, real-time visual effects that match the tone of a dark medieval fantasy world.
• Deliver high-fidelity effects for cutscenes, boss fights, and in-game cinematics with attention to detail, timing, and visual intensity.

Requirements

• ✔ 3+ years of experience in cinematic or in-game VFX creation
• ✔ Expertise in Unreal Engine (Niagara) for real-time FX
• ✔ Proficiency in Houdini, Maya, CC4, or similar tools for simulation-based FX
• ✔ Strong portfolio of realistic and fantasy-themed effects (e.g., fire, smoke, magical impacts)
• ✔ Ability to work with creatures, skeletal meshes, and animation timings
• ✔ Excellent sense of cinematic composition, lighting, and visual storytelling
• ✔ Bonus: Experience with boss VFX, aura systems, large-scale magical effects

Artists who can deliver AAA-quality, photo-realistic VFX with a fantasy twist, along with a passion for fantasy worldbuilding, magic effects, and real-time performance optimization. A strong eye for timing, impact feel, and cinematic integration of effects is also essential.
