Title: Spanish Linguist
Location: Lorton, VA
Security Clearance: Public Trust
Schedule: This is an as Needed Part-Time Essential Services Position which will require you to work Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. This position is subject to the Service Contract Act and is classified as non-exempt, which means you will be eligible for overtime.
Hourly: $28.73/hr

Job Summary:
The Linguists are responsible for performing real-time transcriptions of sensitive material from Spanish to English; collecting, analyzing, identifying, and decoding colloquialisms and slang terms; extracting pertinent information, and communicating that information to law enforcement agents. The linguist will also transcribe source documents and recordings from various media formats.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Listen to oral and written intercepts or pre-recorded communications in Spanish and provide verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions as applicable per project.
- Relate all pertinent information to the Client when supporting a live project.
- Contribute to a master-list of slang words and codes used by specific groups/organizations for the project duration.
- Maintain a voice library for the project duration.
- Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents as assigned by supervisor.
- Produce court-ready transcriptions of pertinent calls, chats, and documents, following the required format.
- Use various reference tools created during the project.
- Transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8-hour day.
- Operate specialized software equipment provided by the government.
- Maintain a daily log of productivity.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree AND three (3) years’ experience in a professional setting OR Associate degree AND five (5) years’ experience OR High School Diploma AND seven (7) years of experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of transcription experience in the required language.
- Select applicants may be subject to a government background investigation.
- U.S Citizen required.
- Knowledge of source language colloquial terms and expressions.
- Knowledgeable in SMS language, social media, and Webchat.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in the target language, with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Ability to meet contract requirement of a score of 3 or better on a third-party Language Assessment in English.
- Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Ability to work under pressure and communicate effectively with management and law enforcement personnel.
- Strong prioritization, time management skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to take technical direction and feedback.
- Typing speed of 45 words per minute.
Clearance
- Ability to obtain/maintain a Security Clearance.
- Favorable credit check for all cleared positions.
- Successfully passing a background investigation, medical and drug screen.
- U.S Citizen or Permanent Resident who has lived in the U.S. for the past 3 of 5 years.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Mobility to attend meetings with other managers and employees.
- Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 0% - 10% of the time.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0% - 10% of the time.
- Must be able to write, type, and use a telephone system 100% of the time.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time while monitoring calls with restricted ability to leave the desk.
