Job Description
A nationally recognized journalism organization has established a fellowship for a social media content specialist. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing effective social media strategies to expand our audience. This role requires a deep understanding of various social media platforms plus the ability to devise creative and compelling content for our specific target audiences. This is a part time, remote contract of approximately 10 hours per week for an initial 16-week period, with an expectation of four to five high quality social media postings per week across a broad spectrum of platforms. This contract will begin on September 1, 2025, with the option to extend for an additional 16 weeks. A $200 weekly stipend is provided.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage social media strategies across multiple platforms to increase awareness and engagement with specific target audiences.
- Develop engaging and relevant platform-specific content for target audiences across a variety of social media platforms, including but not limited to: Facebook, X, Bluesky, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, and YouTube.
- Implement social media strategies that promote the organization’s history, activities, and events to raise awareness of the organization’s current programs.
- Create content tailored to prospective journalists that will enhance their journalistic skills and encourage them to pursue a career in covering politics.
- Develop cross-promotion opportunities with organizations that may be included in the organization’s audio or archival materials.
- Report on audience reactions per types of posts and platforms.
- Advise on strategies to increase the organization’s rank on main SEO’s.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices in digital marketing, SEO, and e-commerce strategies.
Requirements
- Proven experience in social media marketing.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and trends.
- Ability to create engaging content.
- Experience with social media management tools.
- Consistent awareness of current events, specifically political and national events.
- General knowledge of American history, women’s issues, and the journalism profession preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work remotely and access online materials across multiple platforms such as Dropbox, Vimeo, and YouTube.
- Proficiency in digital marketing techniques including SEO and e-commerce strategies.
- Familiarity with relationship management tools and techniques.
