Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior iOS Developer for an urgent, one-month contract. This is a critical-need role focused on a specific, high-priority challenge. Our company has a key application that is currently experiencing stability issues related to a background task. The app is built on a legacy codebase targeting iOS 12 and has not been updated in several years.

This is not a typical feature development role. We need an expert to come in, rapidly diagnose the core problem by analyzing crash logs, and implement a robust, modern solution. Your primary mission will be to stabilize the application and lay the groundwork for future updates. Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

• A minimum of 6 years of professional iOS development experience.
• Expert-level proficiency in Swift and the iOS ecosystem (UIKit, Foundation, etc.).
• Proven, demonstrable experience modernizing legacy iOS applications.
• Strong experience debugging complex issues, especially related to background processing, networking, and memory management. You should be highly comfortable with tools like Instruments and analyzing crash reports.
• A portfolio of published applications on the App Store.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred (Bonus Skills):

• Hands-on experience migrating older background modes to the modern $BGTaskScheduler$ framework.
• Experience setting up CI/CD pipelines from scratch (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Fastlane).
• Familiarity with modern iOS architecture patterns (MVVM, Combine, SwiftUI).
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and processing JSON data.

What You’ll Do: Primary Responsibilities

• Immediate Triage & Repair: On day one, you will dive into crash logs and performance reports to diagnose and resolve a critical background task failure.
• Modernize & Refactor: Architect and implement stable, efficient solutions using modern Swift and the latest iOS SDKs, replacing deprecated APIs.
• Establish Automation: Create a foundational CI/CD pipeline using tools like GitHub Actions or Fastlane to enable automated builds and streamlined testing.
• Code with Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented Swift code that adheres to industry best practices.
• Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with our internal team to understand the existing architecture and ensure a smooth handover of the implemented solution.
• Ensure Performance: Conduct thorough testing and debugging to guarantee the performance, stability, and battery efficiency of your fixes.
