Location: London (Hybrid, 2โ3 days/week in office - Located in East India Dock)
Duration: 6โ9 months - Outside of IR35
Start date: End of July
Day rate: ยฃ450-500
Elsewhen is a London based consultancy designing digital products & services for clients like Spotify, Inmarsat, and Zego. The company has fostered a working environment that is impactful, driven, open, and friendly. They value outcomes over hours and agility over rigid processes. Weโre looking for a freelance React Native Engineer with approximately 5 years of experience to help build a brand new product for a client in the telecommunications industry. The candidate will be part of a self-organising and cross-functional Agile team to create a well-crafted mobile app, supporting web and payment integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build robust, scalable React Native mobile apps using TypeScript and Expo.
- Integrate with REST APIs and potentially GraphQL.
- Implement local storage strategies with offline-first logic and background syncing.
- Debug native crashes & troubleshoot native modules using Xcode/Android Studio.
- (Ideally) Integrate secure payment solutions and handle payment workflows.
- Collaborate with backend teams to implement sync logic, authentication, and secure data flows.
- Contribute to scalable project architecture, reusable components, and efficient CI/CD workflows.
- Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and stakeholders in a co-located team environment.
- Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing.
Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of professional front-end experience, with at least 3+ years of React Native.
- Strong knowledge of JavaScript & TypeScript.
- Ability to debug and work with native modules (Swift/Kotlin).
- Experience structuring production-grade React Native apps.
- Familiarity with local storage management and offline-first approaches.
- Comfortable troubleshooting 3rd-party SDKs & forking open-source packages.
- Good understanding of mobile build pipelines.
- Ability to demonstrate end-to-end delivery โ from MVP to production.
- Excellent communication & problem-solving skills.
Desirable
- Prior payment provider integration (Stripe, Adyen, or similar) in a mobile app.
- Experience with GraphQL.
- Familiarity with telco / eSIM products.
