Job Description

This is a fixed term 6-month contract, with a 3-day work week. We’re Futurlab, the award-winning game studio behind PowerWash Simulator, the Velocity series, Peaky Blinders Mastermind, and many more awesome games. We are looking for a Technical Audio Designer with a strong eye for detail and a passion for creating unique experiences to join our team and either work remotely or based out of our sunny seaside office in the vibrant city of Brighton and Hove. We foster an inclusive and welcoming culture.

As a Technical Audio Designer, you will have sole responsibility for the creation and implementation of all the audio in an exciting new project – driving the audio identity of our new ‘ultra satisfying’ IP. Your goal will be to help the team deliver a charming, warm and satisfying experience – with SFX that tickles the brain and feels ‘just right’. You will take creative direction from the Game Director and technical direction from the Lead Programmer. Your strong technical ability and creative sensibility will help you understand, define, track, deliver and implement audio across the game. You will need to learn and understand the creative vision of the project, its mechanical documentation, how we work across Unity/FMOD, and be confident and effective having sole responsibility for delivering the game’s audio to spec and on time.

Requirements

Essential

  • Strong FMOD Experience
  • Optimised event and parameter design based on audio event trigger/parameter modulation requirements
  • Considered event grouping and mix bus routing for audio quality and accessibility
  • Troubleshooting and resolving technical audio problems
  • Ensuring memory/performance requirements are met when producing audio assets and behaviours using FMOD debug tooling
  • Comfortable working as the ‘sole audio professional’ within the development team
  • Strong creative instincts across a range of genres and tones, with an established portfolio
  • Good Technical Experience in Unity
  • Proficient in integrating FMOD audio assets into Unity projects
  • Proficient in implementing or providing technical direction for setting up event triggers and parameter modulation with Unity/C#
  • Proficient in asset management and source control workflows (Git and/or Perforce)

Desired

  • Programming experience with implementing/debugging audio behaviours in Unity using C# and FMOD SDK APIs
  • Knowledge of spatial audio and occlusion (Resonance audio or 3rd party solutions)

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with multi-platform development (PC/Mobile/Consoles)
  • Experience with audio-driven haptic feedback design and implementation
  • Experience in ‘cosy’ or ‘soothing’ game projects
  • Demonstrable familiarity, interest and/or experience with ‘satisfying’ or ‘ASMR’ type SFX
