84.51° is a retail data science, insights and media company, focused on helping The Kroger Co., consumer packaged goods companies, agencies, publishers and affiliates create more personalized shopping experiences. We utilize first-party retail data from over 62 million U.S. households to fuel a customer-centric journey. This role is for a Senior Data Scientist on the Enterprise Pricing & Promotions (EPP) team, aimed at optimizing pricing and promotion decisions at Kroger.

The Senior Data Scientist will require skills in software engineering and data science to create, deploy, and maintain efficient optimization implementations and frameworks, focusing on pricing and promotions strategies to enhance business objectives.

Responsibilities

• Support the deployment, automation, and maintenance of cutting-edge Pricing & Promotion solutions using machine learning and optimization techniques.
• Develop and contribute to the Pricing & Promotion core optimization package via modular programming.
• Build and maintain production-grade solutions to manage machine learning and optimization models.
• Scale and maintain solutions best practices in DevOps and MLOps.
• Collaborate with 84.51° and Kroger Product and Engineering teams to enhance Pricing & Promotion solutions.
• Understand business requirements to manage trade-offs between scale, risk, and accuracy to maximize value.
• Adhere to stringent quality assurance and documentation standards.
• Drive innovation based on academic and industry best practices.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Statistics, or related field.
• 2+ years of experience with advanced algorithms, programming languages, or technologies.
• 2+ years of experience developing cloud-based software solutions with scalability, performance, and reliability in mind.
• 2+ years of experience in tech consulting, retail or related professional services preferred.
• Experience developing and deploying pricing solutions is a plus.
• Strong skills in Python, Spark, and cloud technologies.
• Experience with SDLC best practices, CI/CD, and MLOps for development, testing, and deployment.
• Familiarity with technologies such as Azure, Spark, Databricks, Automation tools & MLOPS tools.
• Experience building large-scale algorithmic solutions in a live production environment.
• Comfort with independent learning of new technologies and preparedness to use unfamiliar tools.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment (Product, Engineering, Data Science).
• Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication skills, especially regarding technical topics.
